Funny thing is also that when I connect via vnc: (screen sharing) then the monitor color depth on the connecting computer is actually normal.

Hi there, recently my computer crashed (while working in Adobe After Effects). I made a cold restart and since then the color-depth of my display is forced to 256 colors (or sth like this, I did not actually count them). It looks coarse and ugly. I find no option in my system-preferences...
