I don't know if anyone remebers but a few months ago IBM released a compiler for the G5 that was supposed to dramatically increase performance on G5s as well as G4's. First off I just got the hang of using fink and the terminal a little bit after much confusion and I have to say - It Rules! Apple are geniuses for putting such an awesome UI on UNIX. Fink are geniuses for getting all the porgrams to work automatically and play nice. But I have some general...

    Helper apps with Safari

Thanks, guys, but this doesn't do quite what I want. I want Safari to open the file without me double clicking on it. Specifying the default app only dtermines what happens after I open it. I think "Safe files" is a specified set of file types, not just anything that is not an executable.

    Helper apps with Safari

Okay, I am not sure what to title this post or even what category it fits in but here goes. But when I download certain types especially torrent files, they do not open...

    Inspecting a "Carbon" application

I am very new to programming and I figured I might learn a lot more about programming if I inspected the contents and code of programs that I think are well designed and functional. To that end I wanted to see how the application Shorten works. For anyone who is not familiar with it, it...

New G5 benchmarks even better than the originals?!

From your link, uoba: Update: New document, old SPEC scores: the VeriTest benchmarks are the same tests that were debunked here, and defended here - in great detail. Curiously, Apple's SPEC scores are lower than figures for early G5 silicon supplied to The Register last October. ® There...

Speaking of the nex "X," does anyone think it sucks compared to the furry one? I thought the furry one was funny and classy at the same time, but the new logo doesn't impress me as any more professional. Thoughts?

    Amazing New Hard Drive

Well, Arden- If you really want to know, go to pricewatch.com>Hard Drive>160 GB FW>the cheapest on they have listed. It's actually $163, not $161 but I got it for $153 becaue MSBlast delayed the order. A Windows virus actually benefitted a Mac user. Imagine that.
