I managed to find a way to get into the apple though there was the spotlight icon on top of it, and the problem fixed itself once I restarted my computer. I've favourited the page you linked to, though, in case this doesn't work in the future. Thanks!

My problem is best summed up by a screen shot: Now if I try to click on the apple icon, the spotlight thingy opens. Very frustrating, especially if want to access basic computer functions. Any way to fix this? Thank you!
