I'm just wondering how they could have all of a sudden just changed?

When I start my MacBook Pro, I get a pop up message saying something about My startup folder items don't have correct permissions. This just recently started about two days ago. I have looked into the folder, but there is nothing in the folder. I'm new to Mac OS, so I need some help.
