    Delete an alias in /automount/Servers

Well, I've been trying to delete it as the superuser so the permissions shouldn't matter. I changed the permissions on the alias to 777 as you suggested but it still won't delete. Kent

Snow Leopard Address Book won't search LDAP

Since upgrading my iMac to SL a few months ago, and the deletion of the Directory app, Address Book will not search our Active Directory server for names. On other Macs that I've upgraded Address Book works normally with no extra configuration but I can't get it to work on mine no matter what I...

    Delete an alias in /automount/Servers

I have an alias to a retired server in /automount/Servers that I'd like to delete, however, when I try 'rm /automount/Servers/server_alias' I get a message stating it's read-only filesystem. Permissons on the Servers directory are dr-xr-xr-x. If I try 'ls -l /automount/Servers/' there is a...

I am in need of a method to contact a specific Mac, either by ping or an ssh session or some other means, and notify me if the computer is offline. I know I can simply ping it forever but that seem messy and doesn't give a decent notification. I would like either email or a pop-up with the...

Cannot connect to Windows share: "You are already connected to this server volume"

I haven't found the cause yet but I found a fix that eliminates rebooting. Save or close all open documents. Press Command-Option-Esc to force quit applications, choose Finder and click relaunch. Confirm relaunch of Finder. This worked for me in the limited testing I did. Kent

Interesting! It's January 21, 2009 and we just had three separate reports of this same problem. We're running OS X 10.4.11. Any fixes yet? Kent

You cannot run QuarkXPress on a locked volume. [84]

Change the permissions on the Quark application folder so that all users have r/w permission. In my experience this happens when you install it by copying the Quark application folder to a different drive. Kent

How to get Macs to register on DNS

This is from our network admin. For the main domain's zone, on all DNS servers, and assuming that the Mac workstations are domain members, the following permissions apply: Authenticated users get: - Create All Child Objects (applies to This Object Only) - Everything except Full Control...

How to get Macs to register on DNS

Our network admin found a setting in the DNS server regarding what clients are allowed to update entries. This is apparently different than allowing both secure and unsecure updates. After he changed the setting everything is working normally. Kent
