    Upgrade vs Archive install

Just a simple question about the Jaguar to Panther transition. I bought the $20 upgrade disk set from Apple with the intentions of doing an Archive install. I don't remember seeing this as an option, so I went ahead and did the Upgrade option over Jaguar 10.2.6. Is the Archive...

Suggestions! How can Apple better penetrate the PC Market?

I agree with Rubicon statement that MacIntoshs are like Lexus and should be marketed as such. I would push for flashy ads using a celebrity spokes person demonstrating all the lates eye candy using the biggest display possible. Sort of like Steve Jobs does during his presentations. You...

Panther Bugs and Incompatibilities (Post here)

Since I upgraded this morning to Panther the only system level problem, other than a few utilities that don't work, is my G4/AGP/450 will not go into a deep sleep. After a couple of hours and a wake up, the cursor disappeared. Reminiscent of the same problem with an older version of Jaguar; 10.1.2

Two passwords work: how is this possible?

I think I remember reading that the password parser only looks at the first 8 characters and then truncates the remaining characters. This would make sense in your case.

Software Update doesn't work correctly ...

You guys are looking for instant gratification. It takes Apple a few days to catch up on the SU function of OSX. Give it a rest!!

    installing 10.2.5 won't work

I have had problems in the past with the incremental upgrades from the basic Jaguar disk. Twice I lost the ability to boot after doing an minor system upgrade. I have learned to back up the primary disk to a secondary drive before trying to install an upgrade. No ryem or rythum to the...

Computer Won't Boot After 10.2.5 Update

I too had the boot functionality wiped out on my G4/AGP/450 system on the incremental upgrade to 10.2.5 from 10.2.4. I have learned my lesson from past experiences and always make a duplicate copy of my main disk to a secondary backup before I attempt a system upgrade. This has saved my butt...

    Safari with Tabs (v62 - v71)

Yesterday I downloaded the .dmg image of this pre-released version. Upon reading of the problems that alot of people were having with this build, I decided to not install it and wait for the finial official Apple release. Preferabily thru the software update facility. Yes, I would like Tabs...

I believe that the ethernet port is built in as part of the motherboard. Have you investigated the firmware version of this particular machine?

Deep Sleep & Fan Noise in Jaguar

I have the G4/450/AGP variety of the basic machine and I observed that my machine won't not go into a deep sleep under 10.1.5. The monitor would blank out but the hypnotic eye would stay green; not pulsating yellow. Jagurar 10.2 fixed this. This maybe part of the problem depending on what...

    Safari is awesome!

I finally broke down and loaded the latest beta version of Safari the other day and played around with it. It has some nice features but I found that it wasn't particularly much faster than the latest version of IE 5.2.2. I am running this on a 3 year old G4/450/AGP with 1 gb of ram and a RR...

Internal SCSI Hard Disk in a blue G3 works in 9 but not X

Try the the FAQs section of <http://www.xlr8yourmac.com> the section about PCI based IDE cards. They have a Ftp site with a software download for your TurboMax ATA/33. Don't know if it will help, but worth looking at.

Internal SCSI Hard Disk in a blue G3 works in 9 but not X

people use PCI base ATA cards as the controller for the second disk drive for increased performance thru inhanced buffering and the addition of the second bus. Not to mention that multiple drives can be installed on the card supporting some types of primitive RAID; level 1 or 2. Not to say...

Why can't multiple CPUs solve the performance gap?

In SMP (simultaneous Multiple Processing) the law of Diminishing Returns takes effect: the second processor gives you an increase of 80%, the third 60% and so on. The overhead increases with the number of CPU units.
