the problem was that the user ftp had the same uid than myself. (i created the user in netinfo by copying my user, and modifying the necessary fields. obviously i forgot about the uid field).

ok, problem solved. i think it wasn't the prebinding info, it was something related to my home directory. reinstalling the OS didn't help, so i had to dump my ~/Library .all my settings lost, but i can live with that.

can't login as >consoloe (10.1 only lets me select users from the list, i could change that if preferences were working - but the preference pones seem to be cocoa modules). i did type /sbin/mount -uw / in single user mode, but it still doesn't work.
today i typed the popular "optimisation hack" update_prebinding -root / into the terminal, and after it ran through, cocoa apps no longer work for some reason (the always immediatly return with an "unexpectly quit" dialog box). i guess that my prebinding information got corrupted. any idea how...
