Well, I've heard that while the JVM is great, Apple's API for integrating it into Mac applications is a little immature, making it difficult to use for applets. Java applications on MacOS X work great. How did you get JBuilder running? I ran into tweaky setup problems.

I have a similar problem with a DOS formatted FireWire drive. I wonder if perhaps MacOS X is just picky about recognizing DOS-formatted media. I can't find any sign of File Exchange, but DOS floppies work...

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I'm amused at myself -- you gave a perfectly reasonable UNIX response, and I've been working on UNIX machines for decades, and it didn't even occur to me to look in /dev because I was "thinking like a Mac" instead of "thinking UNIX." heh. Time to "think different!"

I have a (bronze keyboard) G3 500, and sleep works fine. Both going to sleep and waking up are astoundingly fast. I may never bother to reboot again...
