DO NOT LOGIN TO AQUA AS ROOT!!

Never login as root, it's just a good practice. If you don't know this, then you haven't learned yet, and believe me, you will.

    Don't use telnet!

Reboot? That's a dirty word. It's unix man, not windows. Actually, how do you re-init runlevels? Under linux you can just change the runlevel or re-init the runlevel which is much easier and faster than rebooting. I understand we could just modify /etc/hostconfig and then execute sshd from...

I believe I saw a port already of samba over at http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=3886 I'm just going to start posting binaries over at versiontracker. By the way, installing the developer tools is not that difficult you can get them from http://www.darwinos.org though if I...

    Relational Databases for MacOS X

Porting involves the process of downloading the source code and compiling it on the target platform. Correcting any problems that occur and then reproducing it so the 'common' user can do it. As far as I can tell. Most openbsd ports come source. You just grab a copy of the ports tree, which...

    MacOS X GUI / WindowManager / etc

Yes choice of window managers would be nice, Window Maker doesn't come to mind, Enlightenment maybe, but not Window Maker, it's just to friggen ugly. So far the colors are changeable for Aqua, this is still beta so maybe there will be options in the future. Another option is to go get the...

One day hopefully. Getting the gtk libs ported will be the fun part, if possible. No, currently I have been doing all CLI.

NEW SOFTWARE FOR MAC OS X!

Tadd, I be at work now, so no Mac OS X :( , but I'll check when I get home, I run 1600x1200@85hz with 24bit(:D) colors, had no problems, though I do remember Mac OS 9 wouldn't let me past 1280, but that was only on there for a few short days.

    Relational Databases for MacOS X

I found source for DB2, Interbase, mSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. I don't know much about databases. I'm assuming that RDBMS means a little more than client/server? I noticed a couple on the page. Go check out http://freshmeat.net/appindex/daemons/database.html. Are these things that need...

    macosx.com on Linux !.....yehaww

I remember reading some benchmarks a little ways back on http://www.slashdot.org clearly pointing out that the BSDs served out more, what does http://www.yahoo.com run? Then again I did here Linus speak at Comdex last year about the BSD stack no longer had the throne. Of course I think he was...

    Ports?

I've been busy compiling my favorite unix apps and I'm wondering if there is a ports effort going on anywhere. I think most users are going to want binaries all packaged up for them.

    MacOsX password

Bit late but next time try 'root' with the same password. Also you can 'backdoor' the system, you need to boot darwin off of a floppy or whatever and mount the 'hosed' filesystem and remove the root password. Then login as root without a password.
