    TimeMachine "read-only"

Ok. I have been using time machine for around 7 months now. I have had issues as you are stating. For now, I have only experienced what causes these problems, not so much on how to fix them. I have set Time Machine to backup to an external drive along with a network folder, the same idea...

    External Hard Drive Help...

I use a Seagate drive for my external. Fire wire is best connection imo. I purchased a drive and a drive enclosure. This is more customized, but you can also get the pre-made ones. 500gb should be plenty. I use a 320 and have around 50 gb left.

    Apple Mail Gone After Reboot!

Since they are all IMAP, I would just start completely from scratch, recreate all the accounts, that is the easiest way. Mail should see the accounts in your Library and use the information already there. Make a backup first, just in case. My guess is to what happened is your mail preferences...

Help! Random server crash (10.5.3) - services die.. couldn't spawn task??

Do you have any scheduled restarts? I had errors with the windows service not starting up and needing to be reconfigured after a reboot from cron. I set it to be a scheduled shutdown and start up through sys prefs and fixed it. It may be a pain, but its better than a fresh install, you can...

    Image OS drive to RAID1

Yep, that will do the trick. Make sure you set the server into target mode and run CCC from a different machine; hooked up via firewire. You can run into problem if you try to copy an OS in use. You can also set up a cron job. cp -r /Volumes/OS /Volumes/1T/OSBackup/ That will take over...

Isolating a PC on my local network

With windows machines, they only become infected or compromised because of lack of security and type of internet sites you go to. This really isn't something you need to worry about unless you are looking for trouble. Having a router is the most important step. Having two routers hooked...

Isolating a PC on my local network

I have some ideas for you, but I have a question first. What are you trying to accomplish? Do you not want your PC to infest you MACs with junk? We can set up your router, which is crazy, but fun, or apply a firewall to your PC -> more simple and just as effective, since you have a router...

Can I connect to an iPod on a PC from a Mac?

You will need to share your iPod or the folder on your iPod. Right click the iPod in my computer or the folder within the iPod and select sharing and security, share the folder. To make things easier, after sharing it, you can create a shortcut in Shared Docs that points to your shared iPod...

    Airport Problem after Leopard Upgrade

Do you have the WPA password saved in your keychain or have any preferred networks saved? You can reset/remove your saved keychain password for your wireless device. Also, you can try to remove your preferred network settings, reboot, then reapply them. Your issues would make more sense...

    iPhoto Library, where is it?

Yep, your 'iPhoto Library' is located within your pictures folder. Generally, when you import photos into your new 08 library, the import copies the picture older into your Pictures folder/iPhoto Library, unless you set the preferences otherwise. iPhoto does things with the iphoto library...

Is there a way to block applications?

The only way, I know of, is to use parental controls and lock down the computer. If a user can download the app to their desktop, they can run from the download location. Now, you can install the app and set permissions on it to lock it. This will trick those not so tech savvy. Other than...
