thanks jbarley.. so i'm still lost as to what to do seeing as how booting in safe mode doesn't work for me

i thought safe mode was by holding down shift? i booted holding down shift and it didn't help.. is this different then holding down alt? i have 5000 fonts on my computer and someone said the reason it's hung up is that my system is trying to load them into memory

So i goofed and downloaded too many fonts onto my mac and now it wont completely load the desktop, the pinwheel sits spinning forever. I was told that booting from a bootdisk then cleaning out the fonts would work. Only problem is i dont have a boot disk. My friend does have a mac although...
