the problem is i can't physically insert the cd on a desktop mac- the flap has to open and the tray slide out before i can put the disk in... and as to powering up, i can't power up, i just get the gray apple icon screen and nothing else

simple question: how can i start up via CD, in order to reinstall OS X, on a non intel G5 when i can't insert the CD prior to powering up? my computer gives me a gray Mac with a spinning beach ball, and won't start with 's' or 'command s', and unix fsck gives 'this disc cannot be repaired'...
