That did not fix it.
If I change the language to Italian or Spanish then Finder will behave normally.
The problem seems to be specific to Portuguese.

I have another use, which is an administrator for the machine.
I can still log with the other user and Finder is okay.
Also, when I change the international settings back to English
for the "problematic" user, Finder works normally again.
