Also - under Output, the mute box is checked, but it is grayed out so that I can't undo it.

When I turned on my macbook, the sound icon was gone from my menu bar and when i try to increase or decrease the sound using my keyboard, it just shows a crossed circle symbol, as though it's muted. I've checked system preferences and it says no output devices detected. Shouldn't it detect...
