If you wanna know, there is nothing wrong with your 10.2. In Jaguar, they changed m4 to gm4. If you use gm4 instead, everything should work fine in 10.2. Well, at least it did for me...

OK, OK. I know that there is already a happy ending in this thread, but I just have to say this because I am so excited all my work has paid off. I FINALLY have sendmail working, along with qpopper. I can send mail, get mail through localhost in Mail.app, and everything is running smoothly. YAY!!!

go to sendmail.org and fish around. You can find the files, as well as the commands to help you use your virtual users file there. I don't know if you have to re-install sendmail... I was in the same position as you and I just re-made my configuration files. Everything is running on my server...

the new sendmail user is probably due to the unix built in function that sends system crash logs to you via email. Since your system crashed, sendmail was most likely trying to send you the logs, etc... I wouldn't worry about that user, and no, I don't think you were haked. Just be more careful...

Well, I got it working. I bit the bullet and got Sendmail 3rd Edition. Read a little, had it up and running in about an hour. Just missing 4 lines of code + incorrectly configured the router. Thanks Sendmail 3rd Edition!!! Anyone having trouble with sendmail should check this out.

I installed dev tools and still didn't get m4. Then I found a command in usr/bin/ that was labled "gm4." I tried this: gm4 ../m4/cf.m4 ... and it worked fine. I now have sendmail running nicely (as far as I can tell)
