I thought the issue was resolved in 10.4.1? It was caused by long computer names, so check System Preferences -> Sharing and make sure you name reasonably short (less than 16 I think).
Actually 10.4.1 did fix the problem, although the firewire drive is still very slow. I've confirm with a few people with similar hardware setup, and they didn't have any problems, so this is likely an isolated case (broken enclosure?). Anyway, I've decided to get another firewire case to get rid...

So far it runs great for me. Not significantly increase in speed, but it did fixed my firewire drive which was having problems in 10.4.0.

I only discovered this problem yesterday, and I think it is a general issue. Since it's hard to detect the corruptions, I think I need to warn people before they merrily put all their data onto their external hard drive.
