I just deleted all preferences for Filemaker from my home directory (everything with the word filemaker in the filename)... And now it works fine. Although I am still concerned about the ability of any application, Rosetta included, to be able to hang the computer!

...although mine was perfectly fine for a few months of use, and only started hanging up my machine as of last week. This is a real crash/hang - no force-quit, no kernel-panic nothing - just have to power off! That is something I had never seen on an OSX mac before (and we have 100).
