just fixed it. basically reinstalled the framework files for core audioio and quicktime. I used pacifist and loaded them from the install cd thanks for all your help!

Tried that with no luck, still can't access the system preferences. Some programs work and others don't. Quicktime, Avid adn Pro Tols have issues. Ihad originally tried to revert to an older version of Quicktime could that have created this? SafeMode works fine, but in any account System...
