(Did) AppleJack screwed up my TIGER (?)

Had a kernel panic this morning while saving an e-mailed ZIP file to an external SATA drive. Upon single-user restart, I decided to run AppleJack for the first time rather than the usual "fsck" routine. Once that was completed & I tried a reboot, I srtarted getting a message "Tablet...

OS9 to Panther, served by Linux

Had an Irix-based 100Gb server until not too long ago, migrated to .9Tb Linux-based device. Initially chose EXT3 file system but am having user complaints from those (9 users) still on OS9 who access Linux server via AppleTalk. My Jaguar G4 uses NFS & I have less problems, but want to...

Is 512mb enough ram to run OSX well?

Right now, Apple has $4.4 Billion in cash reserves... they want $700 extra for 4 - 512Mb modules... but you can buy 512Mb PC2100 SDRAM compatible 'chips for $.03 under $100.00 from some reputable sources. 512Mb will work O.K., but you'll want MORE soon enough; you can't have enough.

LARGE ATA drives dissed by Jaguar?

Yeah, the firmware was updated on the G4 some time ago. Turned out I had the Maxtor running off the logic board's ATA controller; I know there are issues there. Switching it over to the SIIG - like I thought it had been all along - solved the problem.

LARGE ATA drives dissed by Jaguar?

Got a 160Gb Maxtor partitioned as 128 & 25 Gb volumes, running off a SIIG UltraATA 133/100 RAID High-speed, dual channel Ultra ATA 133/100 controller. This is installed in a G4 Quicksilver 800x2. 10.1.5 sees a 127.9Gb volume and a 24.73Gb volume, read/write from either works fine. 10.2.2...

You might try http://www.dvwarehouse.com/index.php/cPath/253_238 I just bought a refurb logic board for a wonky Gig'Ethernet G4 from them; good service & the board arrived on-time & worked fine. Not as cheap as eBay but... You might also surf over to http://www.macresq.com/store/ Later...

legacy Relysis 4830T SCSI flatbed scanner

Hmm, yes, I'd seen that. The Relysis brand isn't specifically mentioned, either as supported or unsupported. I'm reluctant though to spend $40, then find it doesn't work. I was hoping to get someone with first-hand exerience to relate, but I'll go check in at the VueScan forum at Google &...

legacy Relysis 4830T SCSI flatbed scanner

Anybody direct me to a source for software to support an old Relysis flatbed scanner I have? The thing still works nicely & could server a useful purpose if I could find software to run it under OS 9.1 or 9.2. The last software I have that works (Art-Scan 3.53R Pro) dates from 1995...

    SuperDrive on PowerMac 9500/9600

It should, as long as you can run the required software (both OS and DVD authoring) but you'll have to either add 1.) an IDE controller (95/9600's only ran SCSI drives without additional hardware boards) or 2.) a Firewire port PCI board & then mount the SuperDrive into a Firewire 3-1/2" drive...

    My screen turned green

You got a cable between the monitor & the videocard? It could be loose. You could also have a bad "gun" in the CRT (your monitor). Does it go on-and-off green or just greenish all the time? My sneaking hunch is it's your monitor; I've seen this before, both greenish and pinkish.

Thinking about using liquid sand paper on my iPod screen....

Store? Good question... If I'd been over your way sometime since 1985 I probably would have a name or two... Since you seem to cover quite a bit of ground in a short time, I'm sure there's a few places you pass on your way to or from your usual haunts that carry Simichrome. My best...

Forget Shreve... there was a post on Macintouch today about them deciding to pack it in. They're going to auction off all their assets December 13th at their business address in Lousiana. Read all about it by going to the URL above; they have a phone number you can call for more info.

Thinking about using liquid sand paper on my iPod screen....

Look for any one of a number of brands of plastic polish - there ought to be a few available in your neighborhood(s) & price range (911 - vintage or more contemporary??). You might even have a tube of something I've used to recover scratched CD's before, well known to the motorcycle crowd...

    IDE Volume on SCSI-Mac?

There are a few brands & configurations (single-channel supports two drives max., dual-channel supports four) of third-party PCI IDE controllers available now for not a lot of cash. You might even find one available on an on-line auction service if you do a search. Check out...
