Yes, I have tried a different cable, but I have not swap ports, that's something I'll try today, but... I'm affraid I'll get the same results. Anyhow, I'll let you all know.
I do not understand what the enegy saver has to do with this issue.
You are right, the firmware could be corrupt, but it has been working with no problems for, at least, the last two years with Windows XP. The router is wired not wireless. If I unpluged the MAC ethernet cord and work only with Windows XP I have NO problem with the router.

I already took the Mac and the PC out of the loop. If I only work with the PC or PC's there is no problem, the router doesn't hang. The router firmware is up to date.
When I connect the MAC to the router, there is no problem at the begining, you can surf internet, later on...
