Generally speaking, firewire 400 is a little bit slower than USB 2.0, although it is better at sustaining transfer speed for large files. Firewire 800 is definitely the way to go if it's available on your machine. Otherwise, it's a toss-up.

Is there a way to create custom power schemes in Energy Saver (i.e. an "Always On" setting for presentations)? I realize I can just move the slider so the computer doesn't sleep, but that is tedious. Sure, download Audio Recorder from Version Tracker. That (free) program will allow you to record from your microphone and save to a mp3, mp4 or aiff file, all of which can be burned to CD. I recommend you save all of your recordings as mp3s to a single folder, then make a new playlist in iTunes...
