You have probably already sorted this issue out, but I wanted to also add that I have succesfully done this with Vista and Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a late 2006 Mac Pro. I told iTunes to get all the media from the Mac side. Then, I un-checked the 'Copy to Library...' box and clicked on the iTunes...
