How is that done. Will it take any effect on the installed applications as Photoshop, InDesign an so on

Hey, I'v got a G4 with OSX 10.3.4. When ever I try to shot it down, it simply restarts. Only way is to pull the plug. I have used the disk tools from the system, but it did´nt do any good. I'm ready to try allmost everything. Alan
