I agree. I used it for a while, but once Safari 1.3 came out, I switched back. Firefox is slightly faster, but I'd rather have the OS X look and feel, and spelling, then a few milliseconds of my time.
Just go step by step and do examples as you go. PHP is easy, but sometimes it's hard to remember all the functions. When I'm doing PHP I always have www.php.net open - very handy for quick reference of functions and stuff.

Tiger uses by default GCC 4, while Panther uses GCC 3.3. GCC 4 is a lot stricter. You can set it up to use GCC 3.3 by selecting your target and go Get Info. Then in the Rules tab, click the + button at the bottom, and choose for "Process" the "C++ Sources Files" and for "using" choose "GCC 3.3".
