Why do you keep System Prefs in the dock? It's right under the Apple Menu. I have my Applications folder in the right side of the dock, as well as a 'dump' folder for cleaning off my desktop. I have all my draggable apps on the left side - all the apps I normally drag files onto like BBEdit...

Theres probably a way to do the autologout using quotas but I don't know it... To disable the account, you could just change their password. Maybe setting their shell to dev/null would work too.

you'd have to do the make install as root (sudo make install) but that's the general procedure for stuff that just builds. also the config script might be called configure or have a different name

The size of the computer might be a factor in airflow, but the amount of heat it generates depends on the amount of stuff inside it that's generating heat (common sense enough for ya? :P) Apple knows the heat output of everything that'll ever be inside an iMac or Cube, because except for RAM...

the towers have always had fans - noisy ones too... only the iMac & cubes didn't have them. with all the stuff you can pack into that case, it has to have a fan, or some kind of active cooling system.
