    10.2 Full vs. 10.2 Upgrade

Updates are free, upgrades are not free. x.2 and x.7 is usually almost always going to be released as a x.5 and x.0 respectively. x.5 and x.0's are usually $99 but judging from MacOS 10.0's original release which was $129 so that probably means the standard price will be bumped up to $129...

    G5 and AMD Opteron

I have been a huge dismisser of MacOS x86. I don't see it happening and frankly don't see why it would be so great. 1.) AMDs 64 bit chip will be x86 based. Intels 64 bit chip will not. This means the platform will now split in a huge chunk. Now you will have WinAMD's and WinTels. You...

    iPhoto 1.1.1

I just did a system reinstall last week and installed iPhoto and iTunes from Apples iDisk site. I ran all the necessary updates from up to 10.1.5, then the java update and iTunes update showed up last saturday 6/8/02. Then two days ago iPhoto 1.1.1 showed up in my updates... When I checked...

    10.2 prices

This is going to be an upgrade, not an update. We can want free upgrades all we want but it won't happen unless you buy a new system 30 days prior to an upgrade. 10.1 was a free update. It was a huge update because there was so much that had been done under the hood.

    10.2 prices

HEY! I am the one who uses that analogy :-) Yeah he's correct. Almost always we saw 8.1 -> 8.1 and the dev seed for 8.5 was 8.2 until it shipped. all .0's and .5's were full shrinkwrapped. There has never been a .2 except for 9.2 and that is only because it was a dead product. This...

Is Radeon part of the RagePro 2D family?

I was curious if anyone knows if the OEM Radeons were part of the Rage Pro 2D family (excluding the 3D) The reason I am asking is to find out if I am imagining things or did 10.1.5 really accelerate my G4's 2D redraw. It's not as apparent as it is on my iMac/233. The iMac is blatantly...

    10.1.5:Rage LT ?

I am on the following- iMac RevB/233 6 MB vram 256 MB Ram Upgraded 7200 RPM 10 GB drive Until 10.1.5 I never used MacOS X on this machine. I always attempted and went back to 9 eventually. I used 10 on my G4 and left my iMac virtually alone since I rather preferred being in 10. Since...

    2 DSL, 1 G4 Mac

jeffwbent, I am a little confused as to how your network is setup. I am having a different problem but it has to do with the same issue of multihoming and ipfw etc. First, I am very curious how you configured ipfw in the Network preferences. Second, for the most part MacOS 10 will see...

samba: mounting my XP disc on my mac and visa versa

Windows XP has done something slightly different with sharing that has caused difficulties connecting to Samba shares in certain cases. I do not know which but do a search for the Samba packages on verstiontracker and see that talkback forums. I do know that when I boot into Windows98 my...

Font smoothing and speeding up processes

I have been playing with a Prefernce pane called "TinkerTools" and an application called renicer to see if I can speed up Application performance. Font Smoothing: With Tinkertools, I've disabled the Font Smoothing in CoreGraphics. I have seen an increase of performance that is quite...

    10.1 Satisfaction

So far im loving 10.1. Its not without its problems though. Apple still has a few things to work on if they wish to reclaim their title of the easiest OS to use. 1.) Bring back pop up folders. That was the coolest. 2.) Simplify the GUI without getting rid of features. One of the...

Mac OS X.I on an iMac (rev a)

I have a rev B imac/233 and I put 10.1 on it starting from 5G59 until recently with the final update that shipped. Even with the added 128 MBs (total: 160) and 10 GB drive which has a slightly higher seek time, This machine is rather slow. It slows down a bit more with CDs loaded. I believe...

I posted this a few weeks ago and no one responded. I wanted to start a new thread but this time make the thread subject more specific to the problem. I have heard of this problem happening more now with 10.1 out. Original Thread: Webserver error "caught SIGTERM, shutting down" Date...

Disk image of 10.1 can't be used?

Ooops im sorry. At the time that I wrote that I was unaware that MacOSX.com was going to be mirroring the 10.1 update. This definately came from a 3rd party from a Carracho server. I Should have made that clearer in my previous post. I only meant to do a general Public Service...

Disk image of 10.1 can't be used?

Did you happen to download this from the net? I made the mistake of doing that yesterday only to find that the CD was hacked to make the creation dates look like it was 10.1 final when in reality it was 5G64. What ever they did to make it look like Final killed the disk. Probably too...

Webserver error "caught SIGTERM, shutting down"

I know there was a previous thread on this issue and I wanted to start a new thread in the hopes of finding out what is going on. Here is the back story: After running the 10.0.4 update and the webserver update, trying to get the webserver to start up results in it not starting up. In the...

    Swap Partition

Not to sound like a know it all or someone who wants to rip on anyone who has used the term swap partition. I subscribe to the Darwin users list and was politely corrected that this is not a true swap partition and for the sake of future development to kindly refer to it as a swapfile partition...
