I as unaware you could do this. I have been looking for a solution for something to do with an old Powerbook 1400 thats just gathering dust. Would NetBSD work on a 1400 AND allow the PCMCIA ethernet card to work (thats the killer with Linux).
Forget the AppleScript part of it and go full shell script. You will be pleasantly suprised with the speed difference. Get this <http://www.advogato.org/proj/DropScript/> to convert shell scripts into drag and drop apps. Can also create shell script services that wil appare in the services menu.
It's a bug in Safari I believe. Anything I copy to clipboard from Safari b72 is copied mirrored (not actually upside down, but it appears to be upside down). Either way its annoying! Visit the Apple forums and post a simple msg so Apple hears about the problem...
I think the fact that you had to purchase a book for vi(m) says it all. Don't get me wrong - for some people - vi is da bomb..... I just don't think you should have to have a book to use a text editor. If you want more advanced features than nano or pico, step up to Joe before diving into vi(m).
Looks like if you start pico with the -w switch it will not wrap lines.
pico -w [filename...]
If you use pico a lot I would highly recommend investigating a little bit more advanced text editor like nano or joe. Nano is the most "pico like" and req. little transition pain, joe is less like...
Linux is making inroads - but I believe you are correct - until they get AT LEAST the install process down to a user frienly experience, then its not going to be a very viable system. I don't even think its the process itself as much as there is a different process for each distro. You can't...
Are you running Unsanity Haxies? If so - run the installer again and UNINSTALL (mainly the APE - Application Enhancer) and I think you will see a HUGE difference in stability without APE enabled.
Have a look at GnuMail.app. Similar enough to Apple's Mail.app - with more features.

Does any one know how to get proper ANSI display in the terminal. Even basic ANSI would be fine.
What I am talking about - is for example when a script uses the 'dialog' command. I am sure everyone has seen this command in use at some point. Its the command that will draw a pseudo dialog box...
colsen - can you point to any docs on the subject of the Filemaker "web data connector"? I have the unlimited Filemaker 6.x installed - but I don't seem to have any thing like that. Maybe I need to reinstall.
Just wondering how it works though...

Joel resonded: You are correct that the SLP daemon is causing this traffic. You are most likely generating this packets whenever you fileshare. By selecting "local network" in the "Go to" window to connect to a server, you are instigating an SLP lookup to search for services...

I would recommend
Synk <http://mypage.uniserve.ca/~rvoth/>
Psync <http://sourceforge.net/projects/psyncx>
or if you are comfortable with the terminal you could use
RsyncX <http://www.macosxlabs.org/rsyncx/rsyncx.html>
which is great for syncing over a network, even via secure SSH...
