Hi, You'd need to go into the Controls Panels and launch Startup Items. In there, you can select whether to boot from the OS 9 System Folder or the OS X System folder. You should also be able to select which one to boot to by holding down Option when you hear the startup chime.

Even the Mac mini would perform better than any Power Mac G5 at this point.

At this point, I would also say the Mac Pro. The PMG5 Macs are quite outdated considering when they first came out. Not worth the expense unless you're into collecting old Macs.
