having problems downloading from the internet

That's understood, but it was mentioned that the OP could buy 10.4 or higher (at least the highest supported by the Mac) or to reinstall 10.3.9 via the Combo Updater. The OP could run an older version of Fx that supported 10.3.9 and iCab 4.8 also supports it. Now, it's not so much that nothing...

having problems downloading from the internet

You can try downloading the 10.3.9 Combo Updater from the Apple website and reapply the update in the event something got corrupted. Also, have you tried running Disk Utility from the installation disc so that you can run a Repair Disk and Repair Permissions on the hard drive? Also, have you...

having problems downloading from the internet

Please include your Mac, version of OS X installed, version of Safari or whatever browser you're using, and any other pertinent information about your system. We cannot help you if you do not help us. That said, this is most likely a software issue so don't freak out about having to buy...

Macbook pro - mach kernel not found

The discs that come with a particular model Mac will only work with that model Mac. You can't take a system disc that comes with an iMac and use it on a MacBook Pro. In order to install Mac OS X to any model Mac, you'd need a retail copy of Mac OS X. You can either purchase it from Apple or...

    G3 OS problem

Hi, You'd need to go into the Controls Panels and launch Startup Items. In there, you can select whether to boot from the OS 9 System Folder or the OS X System folder. You should also be able to select which one to boot to by holding down Option when you hear the startup chime.

    Powermac G5 or Mac Pro

Even the Mac mini would perform better than any Power Mac G5 at this point.

    Powermac G5 or Mac Pro

At this point, I would also say the Mac Pro. The PMG5 Macs are quite outdated considering when they first came out. Not worth the expense unless you're into collecting old Macs.

    i need help

I second the recommendation to upgrade the RAM and to upgrade the OS to 10.4.11. You'll have a much better experience. The only other issue you might encounter is the lack of application support on 10.4.x since most developers have been moving to supporting 10.5 at the least, and that might...

    other mac os x forums

I usually just ignore them unless they get in my face, which is a trend I'm noticing on other sites. But for the ones here, ignoring them is sufficient for me.

Mac Powerbook 3400c Won't Start Properly

Yeah, I'd say it had a good run considering. I've a Quadra 650 that is having some issues as of recently that I need to address, so you're not alone in experiencing issues with retro Macs. Two site you might want to check out if you're looking to get it up and running again. One is the 68K...
