iMac G5 Will Not Boot, Fans Simply Run

If yours is also an iMac G5, there are only two options: replace the bad capacitors yourself (which I intend to do with mine which died again) or buy the replacement parts from a reseller. If you decide to attempt the former, there are plenty of tutorials online on how to do this properly. As...

    I need help!

Exactly what DeltaMac said. The standard "live" installation that is easily available from Ubuntu doesn't always include all the software you need on the disc. Usually after an install, you need to install whatever else is missing. The Alternate installation (which is now a live DVD if I'm...

TenFourFox: Firefox 4.0b7 for Tiger & Leopard/ppc Users

Came across this one via Low End Mac. Haven't had a chance to test it on my iMac G5 with Leopard because I need to replace 2 bad caps on it, but I'll be giving it a go on my father's dual-proc Quicksilver as well as my sister's iBook G4, both of which run Tiger...

    Xserve to be discontinued

I agree with you completely on all of this. It does feel like the punchline missing from the joke, if you will. And, as you said, OS X Server is allowed to run in a VM. VirtualBox has the ability to do that as well. Curious to see what it would be if it's number 3 (sorry for the rhyming :p).

    linux drivers

Yeah, I'm with Giaguara on this one since the site is targeted to Mac OS users. If you're still interested in the answer to that question, try posting it over on the LinuxQuestions forum. http://www.linuxquestions.org I've gone there when I've needed some answers with issues on Slackware...

Today's new Things (MacBook Air and whatever else was introduced in the keynote)

What kind of interface is it using? I originally though that the SSD was soldered on but then I saw/heard it mentioned somewhere that it was removable but that the interface was proprietary. Wonder if that last part was confirmed. Also, is this user-replaceable? If not, wouldn't upgrading...

Can't get Ubuntu to use internet in Q (kju)!!!

Ah, wasn't aware they provided a disk image for use with Q. Anyway, if you download the ISO from Ubuntu, you can tell Q to use that image during the instalation process. You'll have to create a new virtual disk as your hard disk for the VM though. Once you've done that, have VM in Q boot from...

Can't get Ubuntu to use internet in Q (kju)!!!

That's not too bad for the standard ISO image. You could just have it download overnight and it should be ready for you in the morning.

Can't get Ubuntu to use internet in Q (kju)!!!

Ah, I see now. I saw your PM and thought you were talking about a graphical image. Didn't realize it was a disk image. Not sure if this is still the case, but it should be an ISO image if you downloaded the disc image from the Ubuntu site. I don't think I've ever seen them provide a 12 MB...

Can't get Ubuntu to use internet in Q (kju)!!!

Don't see any image attachment here. Sounds like maybe you need to make sure some sort of networking is actually functioning on the virtual machine. Which Ubuntu version are you installing again? I've never heard of a 0.2 release. Are you referring to 10.04?

Dual Boot G4 no longer boots OS9

There was a firmware update for older Macs in order for them to run OS X properly. However, newer Power Mac G4s didn't require this IIRC. The list of available firmware updates is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1395?viewlocale=en_US From the looks of it and the description of your...

Today's new Things (MacBook Air and whatever else was introduced in the keynote)

I would imagine so that they can keep everything centralized as they do on the iPhone/iPad. Granted, it would be harder to do since it's not a mobile device like the aforementioned (and people would be up in arms about it), but you never know. Just something to keep in the back of your mind, I...

You're not the only one with this concern about the Mac App Store and installing applications outside of it. Aside from myself, Thom Holwerda at OSNews has this concern as well. http://www.osnews.com/story/23917/Apple_Unveils_Stunning_New_MacBook_Airs_Gives_Lion_Preview And I just came...

Today's new Things (MacBook Air and whatever else was introduced in the keynote)

Only when compared to the Sony Vaio P. :D As to everything being totally integrated inside the MBA, all I can say is backup often. Honestly, the MBA was never a product for me from the start. I do like the inclusion of more multitouch in Lion and the Mac App Store is nice (something I've...
