Re moving to the begining of a line of text -
Control or Command left right will work in OS X option left right is one word.
As for the behaior in Web Browsers... unfortunatly that is the Browser Developers implementation of it. So if you hate it blame MS or Omni or NutScrape.
The reason...

Specificaly you need "Interface builder" but I am not certain you can just install Interface Builder alone - It may rely on other parts, frameworks, objects, etc not sure... I have changed my login and startup if you want to see just click the link below in my sig

I use pop because any mail left on Apple's system will eventually be deleted or you would run out of room... They will not give you unlimited disk space.
also I back up any important emails. no need for imap.
imap is typically good in a coporate environment where the admins keep track of and...
Well... I won't flame you... BUT
It seems everyone finally gets to that point and realizes MS software basicaly suxass!
I know someone that JUST bought a Sony Vaio laptop... had it less than a year and wants to sell it to get a Ti Powerbook laptop. Same trouble always something screwing up...
Then you don't want to use the startup sound it's default is sort of like the THX sound... :-) would most certainly alert her to your playing :-P

Exactly the reason I made the simple little thing I did.... Who wants to bother doing all that to get a startup sound. Not knocking your idea but it is rather involved.
Cheers

I want to be able to have a sound play without having to run Quicktime LOL like the old OS system sounds...
Sorta strange the things we get used to.

I used to have a sound in my OLD OS startup items folder that would play after everything else finished... sort of an alert that startup was done.
I guess I miss it... but can't seem to figure out if this can be done in OS X?
if you put an aiff sound in the login items it will launch...
Just a word of advice IF anyone decides to use the command line to do a cp...
cp will NOT copy resource forks if you so happen to have any apps that are Classic apps they will be damaged.
the way to copy to be sure that resource forks stay intact is.
diito -v -rsrcFrok (target)...
:-) I never said the idea isn't a good one ;-) just the rationale apple uses when deciding on what to do and not to do.
I personaly installed Windowshade and have the minimize button set to hide... have had it this way since the utility came out... and will never change back.
cheers
I know the exact thinking why Apple won't do this.
Too many options that would confuse new users. Allowing to set custom options for items that one would expect to always do what they expect it to do is potentialy very confusing for a new or even average mild user.
Most of us here on this...
