Not being a heavy fonts user, I never noticed this until I tried to add a pair of fonts... It appears that the only fonts that show up in my menus/text panels are the ones in the System/Library/Fonts folder. Nothing from Library/Fonts, and nothing from ~me/Library/Fonts. There are font files...
