Linksys Wireless-G router and new powerbook

Hi jeb, thanks for that info re. the wireless printing with a USB printer. It sounds like a really nifty idea. The only reason I was planning on getting an Apple Airport myself was because of the USB port for wireless printing, none of the other routers I had looked at actually had this...

How do I play avi's through Quicktime?

Some avi's play perfectly through QuickTime while others don't play with sound or video. The latter are usually divx encoded avi's and I recommend playing those with a free program called VLC. However if you really want to play them in QuickTime then you need to rebuild them with a program...

    Internal CDR-CDRW Advice

I did this with my B&W G3 last year. From what I gathered through my research there are only a handful of models which natively support everything you could want to do on a Mac including iTunes burning, Finder drag and drop burning and also booting off both an OS X and OS 9 start up CD. For...

    Goodbye Epson

Hmm, yeah that bites. I have an Epson Perfection 610 which is supported, I guess I'm lucky. I suppose you've tried VueScan then...

    OSX starts with no chime.

Try resetting the PRAM (hold apple-option-P-R at startup). If that doesn't fix it then your battery may be on its last legs.

Linksys Wireless-G router and new powerbook

Don't forget, Apple's base station has a USB port to allow network printing and also an external antenna connector. I don't think the Linksys has either of these features. Plus going by reviews I've read around the net Apple's has much better signal strength and range than any of the other...

    Logout and Leave Apps Running

Nope. The exception though is command line apps, not sure if they all behave that way but the ones I've tried do.

    iCal 1.02 released?!? ...

For all of those who are wondering why iCal was so quickly updated to 1.0.2, there was a MAJOR bug in 1.0.1. Dates and appointments were severely screwed around for anyone who lived in a time zone that was +10 GMT or more. It caused a lot of headaches for a lot of people, myself included...

Did anyone else mentioned this about 10.2.3?

    D'oh! :( Nice discovery though :D

    Anti-Virus Program Questions

Yes I know, but the question is "is it worth it?" since OS X manages its files in a completely different manner to OS 9. I used to notice a performance difference after defragging my HD back when I was using OS 9 but now with X it's barely, if at all, noticeable.

    Anti-Virus Program Questions

Hmm, there *are* lots of UNIX based virii out there and since OS X is based on UNIX it may be ignorant of us to think we're all immune just because we use Macs. I guess only time will tell whether we have anything to worry about or not. I'm certainly no expert on this, but my advice would be...

    Anti-Virus Program Questions

I agree. I've been a 100% Mac user for over ten years and never once have any of my computers contracted a virus (I do lots of downloading too). Occasionally I might download a trial/beta version of a virus scanner just for kicks, but they never find anything. As for a defragging utility I...

Did anyone else mentioned this about 10.2.3?

I tried this in Quake3 but it didn't do anything, all it did was make the screen flicker each time the zoom key-combo was pressed :(

Good audio application for cleaning up old music records ??

Thanks for the extra info guys. I've just been chatting with a friend and he said that a simple cable connecting the headphone jack on the HiFi to the mic port on the Mac would suffice and there would be no benefit from using the USB port since the audio being captured is analogue in the...

Good audio application for cleaning up old music records ??

If the turntable was connected through the HiFi and I was using audio out jacks on the HiFi, that would be okay wouldn't it?

Good audio application for cleaning up old music records ??

Ah perfect, thanks. It's an old record player/hi fi system so I'll have to make sure it has the right connectors.

Good audio application for cleaning up old music records ??

How does one actually connect a record player to the computer in the first place? My parents have old LPs that they would like converted to CDs and have asked me if I could do it for them. I know that the market for inexpensive consumer soundcards with Mac drivers is very small, so are there any...

Ah, that's perfect, thanks for your help.

Wireless router w/ support for USB printer?

Really?? I didn't know you could do that with a plain old inkjet printer and a USB -> Ethernet adaptor. Will OS X be able to print to it as normal if it's plugged directly into the router? I read that Maxgate have gone out of business, but the wireless router Macsense sells looks okay.

Wireless router w/ support for USB printer?

I currently have a B&W G3 on a cable internet connection. My mum will be buying a new 800 MHz iBook w/ Airport card mid January, so I've been doing a bit of research into broadband routers with wireless capability. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality wireless broadband...
