    New Apple PalmOS Device?

I believe Apple registered as a Palm OS licensee so they could legally develop applications for it like iSync. They probably also did it to (legally) download copies of PALM OS from Palm handhelds into emulators for troubleshooting apps like iSync.

    usability

As a support engineer, I cannot give you a fair estimation of either WindowsXP or Mac OS X usability. Except that as far as support goes, Windows XP really did a nice job of moving things around and under several layers, just as I got used to Windows 2000. One thing I don't like about OS X is...

Ok, whats the deal with this article...Am I wasting my time holding out [GPuL]

Yeah but that $800 can give you a bunch more options on the 1 GHz model, like max out the RAM and get another fast big hard drive or even a huge Firewire hard drive. Heck that can even get you a nice 15K RPM 160MBytes/Sec SCSI drive setup plus another 1GByte of RAM. You could also get the...

Ok, whats the deal with this article...Am I wasting my time holding out [GPuL]

So true. But I would expect to see another small increase by MWSF, especially if either the Moto G5 or GPUL are delayed. Even if it is Apple that delays them. I expect to see updated iBooks as well. The 750FX does have a 200 Mhz bus easily enabling it to handle DDR RAM interfaces. This...

GPUL 64bits GigaProcessor for Mac (FOR SURE)

Programmatically, if you recompile the SUSE LinuxPPC kernel for the PowerPC64 you can set the flag for AltiVec and 64-bits. The Altivec flag comes up with an error if your CPU is a Power4. All the 32-bit Linux apps run just fine even if the Power4 is used (must be binary compatible :D ). BTW...

GPUL 64bits GigaProcessor for Mac (FOR SURE)

Yes they will perform better. And the 32-bit versions of the applications will be transparent as IBM has previously indicated with SUSE Linux compiled for the 64-bit PowerPC. All 32-bit apps run normally in the 64-bit SUSE PPCLinux version as noted in their Linux site.

    fix_prebinding failures

Try the following command sudo update_prebinding -root / at a terminal prompt. If you need more info do a man update_prebinding. Of course you could also go to version tracker and look up Xoptimiser for a GUI way to fix prebinding. HTH

    Apple dumping IE?!?

Chimera is the best browser on Mac OS X so far. I really like the tabbed new window feature. Probably why it is so fast with multiple sites open at once since it doesn't have to resort to system calls for new windows for each web page. There are no MDI windows in OS X either which is also...

    Motorola Down but not out

Microsoft has announced Motorola has joined ARM Consortium for WindowsCE and will be supplying CPUs for the WindowsCE computers, AKA PocketPCs. Motorola's Dragonball MX1 is an ARM derivative CPU that is also compatible with their earlier Dragonball VZ and Dragonball EZ chips that go into...

help! tweeky things going wrong with my iBook >.<

Sounds like permissions problems are cropping up. How many people are using this Mac ? Anyways get this free utility called MacJanitor, @ http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html or look for Apple's Repair Privileges on version tracker . If that doesn't clear things up try...

Jaguar LOSES speed on my G4 PowerMac

Excellent. But from your previous post with "TrueBlueEnv" I believe is what is pegging it (I should have asked whether Classic was running). Try making an alternate boot-up extension set for Classic that doesn't enable anything - like take out the USB and network stuff. You don't need it...

Paris keynote hints of faster machines.

It won't be for the same money, you'll have to spend more in electricity. I just got a notification from my supplier that I have to buy motherboards that can handle 82 Watts instead of the normal 77 for the newer CPUs of 2.8 GHz. I believe that is just about what the LCD iMac uses for the...

    Project "Not-Marklar"

Absolutely. Since Avie did away with the OS 9 development team it should also be noted that only a couple from that team were reassigned to that project, presumeably to write drivers for OS 9 hardware. If they were serious about another CPU they would have reassigned all of the OS 9 dev team...

    no OS9 startup anymore ?

They will have to if Apple goes to 64-bit CPUs. I don't envision that happening for a while though. And there will probably a hack or two out there that will allow a newer machine based on existing architecture to boot into OS 9 even though its not officially sanctioned by Apple. Now if they...

Jaguar LOSES speed on my G4 PowerMac

It's were a program doesn't release memory that it's done with and ends up using all of the available system memory if left running.

    no OS9 startup anymore ?

One can only imagine the great games on the new Macs and what wonders they will hold. You could also get Timbuktu and control the old Mac with the new Mac. We have to do this with PC Anywhere for an old scanner which only has drivers for Windows9x to be used with those who have WindowsXP.

Jaguar LOSES speed on my G4 PowerMac

Man I don't like the sounds of that. Although it sounds like a memory leak, I haven't had a problem with my OS X. More probably it sounds like corruption. Have you tried to run Disk First Aid yet? Or to see if there is a problem on the UNIX side you may have to reboot into Single Use mode...

G4 Upgrade for Jaguar beige G3: Where's the cache?

I would believe the PowerLogix since the Apple System Profiler may be using a system call not present on the Beige G3 with a G4. An easy way to tell, is run some quick benchmarks and if it is faster, you'll know the cache is working. Without the cache, your upgrade will perform worse than the...

Can I use my clie as a webcam?

In a word, .... No. Not even MissingSync plans to do this. A couple of Aussies tried but no go. Sorry.

    G4 upgrade

I put one in a Beige G3. The upfront speed won't be affected a whole lot but many things that run in the background will. It helps out alot with Multitasking and IO mostly which means it doesn't get bogged down as much. I got double the speed simply because I had a 266 MHz CPU anyways so I...
