10.2 internet sharing is really flakey...help!

Or I just keep getting stupider and stupider (bad english intended ;) )... Turns out the Firewall was turned on on my iBook. I have no idea why nor did I think to look at it till just now in my desperation. This brings me to another question now: why would the firewall block the internet sharing?

10.2 internet sharing is really flakey...help!

This just keeps getting better and better by the moment... On my tower I opened up Terminal and tried pinging various domains like apple.com and macosx.com and it worked. No lost packets. Then I took it up a notch and tried to ftp. Connection refused. Basic IP connections work but anything...

10.2 internet sharing is really flakey...help!

Here's another interesting thing I just discovered: I was poking around in the Sharing preference pane on my tower and under the Internet tab it said that I had an active connection to the internet. It's not very active considering that I can't get online for the life of me.... and I don't think...

    sharing internet connection with win98

10.2 has built-in internet sharing capabilities. On your machine running 10.2, open System Preferences and click the 'Sharing' pane. Click the 'Internet' tab in that pane and turn it on. On your Win98 machine, simply turn on DHCP. This will share your dial-up connection.

    Telnet

I'd reccomend using SSH. Use it just like you would telnet, from the Terminal. Open Terminal and type ssh 'ip address' replacing 'ip address' with the address you want to connect to.

10.2 internet sharing is really flakey...help!

I use the built-in internet sharing feature of 10.2 to share my dial-up connection with all my computers on my home LAN. My iBook dials up, I turn on internet sharing, and all should be well. My other computers are configured to use DHCP to aquire an IP address and that also is working fine. I...

    Journaling FS coming in 10.2.2!

Which is exactly what Rhino_G3 said, if not a little indirectly. Since it keeps track of changes to files and can restore them, it keeps the FS from getting corrupted by just restoring the files.

    This cracked me up

iBooks still have built-in microphones though, you can still easily use voice-recognition software. The removal of the IRDA port is obviously for Bluetooth. They're trying to market Bluetooth, not IRDA, it's not a matter of the cost of adding it. They want you to buy Bluetooth devices, not...

    Journaling FS coming in 10.2.2!

According to this article, Apple is to include Journaling File System capability in 10.2.2. It will run on top of HFS+ and be turned off by default. Turning it on results in a 10-15% system performace hit, but this feature may still...

Mounting ftp servers on the desktop?

It doesn't work for me at all, I've been trying to use it to mount my webspace from my internet prodiver for easier uploading. It asks for my username and password and after I enter that it pops up a little dialog saying connecting to server with a non-moving progress bar and it'll just sit...

Microsoft launches Switch Campaign! Why XP rules!

Apple uses real people, M$ used a stock photo, it wasn't even a real picture of their own employee. And their comparison of Office to AppleWorks...they forgot to mention the difference in price tag, they'd have you think Office came free with XP. NOt to mention that IE is the default Mac...

MS Freestyle PC, a sneak peak by HP.

I see no innovation there at all. Just another attempt to copy what the Mac's had for years now, but running a shitty OS. Whoop-tee-doo-dah.

I had an extra one for a while, until I installed a third party one, then it just disappeared from the 'Other' section, replaced by the third party one.

    Mac OS X 10.3 Panther!

10.3 will be a pay upgrade. The old pay then free then pay upadte system used with pre-X OS's is over, can't you see the new pattern? 10.1 was free, yes, but only because they were force to release 10.0 unfinished. 10.1 should have been 10.0. All the 10.x.x releases are the free ones we get now...

    leaving mac on?

I wouldn't worry about it, I leave all my computers on 24/7/365 and never had a problem with them wearing out. I have an LC that according to TechTool has over 12,000 hours of use and it still hasn't had a problem yet. And that computer is a decade old
