open Terminal and use ftp there, it works every time. Just type ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (replacing the x's with an actual IP, obviously) and go... type 'help' if you can't figure a command out.

    OS X Fonts! ...

I don't believe you have to do any conversion with OS X, I just downloaded a bunch of TrueType fonts and installed them in OS X and they work fine.

    Network causing computer hang

That is strange, I've had the beachball totally preventing me form doing anything but usually it only lasted about 5 minutes, no more, so yes this is a bit different. All I can tell you is to remember to disconnect the sharted drives then. And like I said Jag takes longer to boot after a...

Big blue after 10.2.1 update: HELP!

try rebooting into X, holding down command-v to start it up in verbose mode. Your screen will show all the UNIX messages of your computer starting up - now watch where it hangs in the boot, this will most likely give you a better hint of what's going wrong. Let us know and maybe we can help you.

    Network causing computer hang

Just remember to eject your drives, first of all. Secondly, it is not a beachball of death, just your computer searching desperately for those drives. That's happened to me a lot with my iBook and forgetting to disconnect shared drives from my tower. The beachball will go away, though not very...

    Picture of your setup

Went a little overboard with the pictures, but it was fun. See it here in my nice generic iPhoto-generated web-page: http://www.idcnet.com/~amadeus/setup/index.html All taken with my FujiFilm FinePix 4700.

I think you can, mine seems to be...in Network Prefs I have it set as 192.168.1.1 and when I open System Profiler it says that it is set to 192.168.2.1. This is on my tower, which shares my dial-up...

where can I buy a used mac cheap?

Definately eBay... buying refurbished Macs from resellers is usually wayy too over-priced. I'd reccomend searching for auctions in your area though to save on shipping costs, shipping a whole computer can get pricey.

    Apple Studio Display 17" CRT?

The higher the refresh rate, the clearer the image appears on the screen. At lower refresh rates like 60hz your eyes can see the screen refreshing so it appears to kinda flicker. Try it, set your monitor at a resolution with a high refresh rate then turn it to a lower refresh rate. To really...

    Snow iMac got peed on!

Yes, rotate it so it gets an even tan! It's probably all the extra heat due to the lack of fan that is changing the plastic.

    softwarebased DSL-router under osx

Yes it comes a built in feature in 10.2 that works everytime and is easy to use unlike third-party solutions you have to use under 10.1.X. Just another reason to get Jaguar.

    os e"X"treme slow

You could also just try running a clean install of 10.1 and updating back to 10.1.5. That'll clear up everything if you're too cheap to get Jaguar.

    The PC Strikes Back

I wouldn't call it striking back, more like making a mockery of themselves in an attempt to emulate Apple's campaign. I don't know why anyone would bother to read that whole long thing, it's not to the point at all, just a boring read. The beauty of Apple's switch ads are their short to the...

    osX on a imac 333mhz?

Definately upgrade the RAM, buy as much as you can afford, it is one of the best upgrades you can make to a computer running OS X. 10.2 will work, just no QE, but it will still be snappier than 10.1.x.
