equivalent of Appletalk over TCP/IP on OSX?

Do you know what port AT uses...or would it just be your regular web traffic port, as it's TCP/IP (but then, why would I have to open it up then?) Sorry for the naive questions!

equivalent of Appletalk over TCP/IP on OSX?

so, is that actually AT over TCP/IP then? If so, there aren't any huge security concerns, correct? The only other catch...now that I think about it...is that this is behind a router. Not sure if that will affect anything or not, though...

equivalent of Appletalk over TCP/IP on OSX?

My wife has an OSX machine at work and one at home. She'd like to be able to transfer file between the two. In OS9, that was fairly easy + secure via Appletalk over TCP/IP. Is there an equivalent in OSX, or do I need to stick with a .mac or ftp solution?

Can someone please explain OSX file sharing?

Well, I'm using DHCP, so they are getting whatever IPs the router is dishing out. However, I can go to the file sharing pane and see my IP. If I then choose that specific IP off oc my local servers to connect to, it will connect. So, it seems to work. However, I still have my desktop show...

Can someone please explain OSX file sharing?

Once every two months or so, I try and connect two OSX machines together and consistently forget how to do it. Can anyone help me? I have a laptop running x.2 and a desktop running x.1.5 On the desktop, I set up a new account/user called Laptop. On the laptop, if I go to browse the...

How do I share a folder?

Is it just me, or is this a severe problem in terms of Apple's continued insistance that Macs are still easy to use? I love OSX, but I really don't see how apple can still call it an easy-to-use OS. I actually installed an XP machine the other day and was quite surprised as to how easy XP is for...

How do I share a folder?

Yep. Someone who has been using OSX for about a year is asking the most basic of all questions. But I'm completely stumped. We have a LAN in our house and have been sharing files fine via our public folders. However, we realized that we have no idea how to share any other folder on our LAN...

How do I print to File in OSX?

I'm using FH10. I don't have a printer. How do I print to file? The only way I can seem to choose a print driver is to have an actual physical printer. I need to run some postscript files through distiller in classic, as FH is giving my some buggy PDFs via the export command.

Can someone explain the SMB syntax (window networking) please?

I'm sure this is a pretty basic question, but I can't find an answer anywhere. I'm really struggling to understand the URL syntax for connecting to a windows sharepoint. Here's what I have: PC Name: COMPUTER shared folder: shared Username: myname Password: mypassword So, what...

Differences between 12" and 14" iBooks?

Can anyone tell me the differences between the 12" and 14" iBooks other than screen size and price? I've heard the 14" has a longer batter life, but other than that, is there any compelling reason to go with the 14" considering the monitor resolutions are the same?

    20gb iPod gripe...

Stripped down version of OSX? Where'd you hear that? No. It runs it's own system based on the companies' products you see listed in the legal section. It does crash, and you can force restart by holding down the MENU and PLAY buttons. I've found it can get goofy when playing a song encoded...

    Who's placing bets on a G4 iBook?

Anyone got the odds line on Apple coming out with a G4 iBook? I really want to pick up an iBook this week to compliment/sort-of-replace my G4/350. How fast are the G3/600's compared to what I currently have? Are the iBooks video cards superior to the older desktops in terms of taking...

Does this look good for an Mp3 Player?

I agree that if you're just learning how to program, that it might as well be an MP3 player, but if you're actually trying to compete with what's out there, you don't have much of a chance. iTunes is free...which makes it hard to compete with it, and products like Audion are VERY robust, so...

Anyone using a RoadRunner/Toshiba Cable modem via USB?

The inlaws have RoadRunner Cable modem service with a Toshiba cable modem. Their original iMac no longer makes a connection to the modem. I think the ethernet card is fried. Unfortunately, this is part of the motherboard = $$$ + PITA to fix. The modem has a USB interface as well, and the...

    Damn MIcrosoft

Microsoft owns a minimal amount of stock, and the stock it does own is non-voting shares. I'm not sure what you mean by apple not supporting other office suites. Never heard of Appleworks? The reason there isn't any real competition for MS Office is simple market share. 90% of all...

Password software that syncs with Palm

Gwailo: What I need is an application that allows me to store different kinds of encrypted data (Web site passwords, server log-ins, financial accounts, credit cards, etc.) and then allow me to store different kinds of passwords in custom groups (for clients, basically). Then, ideally, I'd...

Password software that syncs with Palm

Well, sooner-or-later I need to start syncing my Palm in OSX. I've given up on having an address book sync with my mail (as it appears the only working way to do that is to use enterouge). I would, however, REALLY like to find a password storage application for OSX that can also sync with my...

A better email program? Any suggestions?

I didn't want to leave Eudora, as I've been using for 5+ years to. However, the last beta just puked out on my machine. It just stopped working. If they had gotten out of beta with the OSX version a lot sooner, I probably would have stuck with it. The more I use Powermail, the more very...
