    serial connection dropping under Parallels

check on the serial device setup. perhaps something in hardware handshake? Too late/early at night/morning to write about what could be causing it to work, then fail. I'd think it if required handshake, and it was off, it'd stop or not work at all.

    D-type serial/USB adapter & hyperterminal

IOGear USB-serial (GUC232A). Works with a variety of equipment. I have 3 on simultaneously. I believe they have a new universal version of the driver. I use ZTerm for basic terminal emulation, tho there are a couple of others. This is the cleanest, IMHO.

    fine-tune my laptop x:y ratio?

if you're running a low-res mode (non-native), the smoothing might case some slight oddities, but I haven't seen any aspect ratio issues. (unless, the non-native changed the ratio (like, on a 1440x900 going to 1024x768. That will end up with vertical bars. If I fill the screen with 1024x768...

viewing .3gp converted by quicktime pro on a nokia 7600

Hi, I've used QT-PRO to convert QT movies to 3GP for my Motorola v551 phone (also worked fine in other Moto phone and Nokia). I believe I ran into same problem, but was related to sound sample rate, and perhaps FPS. Here's info on a converted 3GP settings: AMR Narrowband, Mono, 8.000 kHz...

    So... Tiger: Buggy and Incomplete?

Well, I've had virtually zero problems. Couple of odd behaviors launching widget (only on the first run of it/them). Had to reset my iChat icon. Had to reset my "recent applications" back to 15. It's faster - especially in Safari. Everything seems to be zippier. Just thought I'd add some good...

    H.264 on nothing but G5s

Keep in mind, the requirement for G5 is only for h.264 rendered at HD resolutions. I tried on my 1.67 17" PB, and it isn't bad, tho not 30fps for most I suspect.

    Screen "radiation"

Hi, I don't believe any modern CRT's have enough voltage to generate X-Rays. Even in the days where TV's had some, you had to be almost touching the screen to get anything measurable, and if I remember, there was actually more off to the sides [of the tube].

    Coupla Tiger questions...

As for the "clean" install, I did pretty much what you want to do, but it was with an external FW drive. I don't know if it will work with internal (ATA), but I suspect it may. If you have the time, there wouldn't be any harm in trying it that way. If not, if you can borrow a FW case and put the...

    iChat Audio - can't connect

A bit of a dissapointment, but hopefully resolved soon: When trying to connect an audio chat, I get "insufficient bandwith to maintain conference" (or words to that affect). I had the same bandwidth settings (200kbps) as with Panther, and tried setting to "none". Also verified that the person...

    Motorola phones bluetooth support

I have a v550 and although it doesn't work with iSync, it does work with file xfers, either direct or using the file browser. Even to it doesn't work with iSync, you can still xfer Vcards to phone directly in Address Book. Select the card, the go to "Card->Sent this card...". The phone will...

    Scanning under OS X

Although they don't have drivers for OS-X, I found that using their "VistaScan DA" app in Classic, isn't all that bad. Just do your scan using that app, then open the file in Photoshop, or whatever.

Any print servers work with Mac OS X and 9?

The AXIS 1440 print server works fine with my Epson 1280 in 9.2.1, and in Classic (OS-X). Although OS-X sees the server natively (OS-X Printing Center setup), there aren't any drivers (yet) for the 1280. Epson says they will have them by the end of the month, but I don't know what support...

    Epson drivers on the way!

I'm hoping the upcoming Epson 1280 driver for native OS-X support will support AppleTalk or LPR so I can use my AXIS print server natively. In the mean time, I'm able to print just fine from Classic using the AXIS print server to my 1280 Epson. Although it'd be nice to print directly from...
