    The End Of DVD Piracy

Well, I'd say: Treat your customers as you want to be treated by them.

    Your last music picks

My latest purchase: Kicker in tow by Hangedup. They toured France recently with Godspeed you black emperor! which I knew before. I didn't know Hangedup before that concert (in Lyon, a culinary capital BTW!) though. It's a duo (strings/percussion) also from Montréal (man, do I love that city!)...

If the world made decisions on a 2.5 beer buzz...

What's a beer for you? A pint? 3dl? Half a liter? There's different measures for beer in different countries, and the percentage of alcohol also varies all the way from about 2 up to 12 percent. I'd say, a 3 beer buzz (half a liter each, that would be about 50 US fl oz.) would render me open to...

    The End Of DVD Piracy

hmmm..... The only beef I have with DVDs is the region encoding.... I have no problem purchasing, but I dont wanna buy 3 different players to see DVDs bought from 3 different regions! well, that's why they hacked those, too! I find it particularly annoying since I'm travelling back...

Osama, Saddam, WMD's and the 2004 election

Remember the Iraqi Minister of information (I think that was his official title) who was the laughing stock during the war? Well, it seems like the U.S. counterpart can claim some decent results, too: http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/front/6085261.htm

Why isn't the French police like the American one ?

Wanna try the Swiss and German ones ? Go to Geneva in June 1st... I think the German cops that are called in for that event are going to be a bad surprise for us Swiss... even though the cops in Zurich, for instance, aren't exactly nice to so called troublemakers, the Germans' reputation...

    Is world peace possible?

No. This doesn't mean we shouldn't work towards it.

    "George Bush our hero!"

The Iraq crisis is not new any more. Yes, this one's over, but what's next? Maybe this? The hawks in Washington sure would like to go on a more extensive "warring spree" in the region.

    "George Bush our hero!"

I don't consider myself a religious fanatic, even though I hold literalist views. I believe in compassion, whether they are a Christian or not. But I also believe in appropriate punishment (bring on the Death Penalty debate!) OK, it seems like this is the point where I want to join the...

    "George Bush our hero!"

Gulf War 1 was our weapons against thier weapons. Actually it was more "our" (speaking from the American point of view) against all sorts of weapons: Russian, American, European... The same applies to the "war on terrorism" in Afghanistan. Just another aspect of globalization

    "George Bush our hero!"

Although Regans total defeat of Communism was glorious, it's not constituting a golden age. Total defeat of communism! So your version of history would be American tanks rolling into Moscow, right? I think the actual events were a bit different. A lot of Eastern European countries...

    "George Bush our hero!"

In fact I may not live to see the day, but if the Bush plan succeeds in keeping America free of future 9/11's, and there is an economic rebound because of it, and the seeds of democracy take up firm roots in the middle east, then the conditions will become ripe for a major paradigm shift...

    Favorite Old School game

I love old games! Every now and then I'm getting legacy hardware and software to get back the gaming feel of those days. 2 years ago I bought myself an Atari 2600 which I found at a flea market. I recently found a copy of Dune II (yes, it's a DOS game, but that's what we have Virtual PC for) and...

    Herve's Smoking Lounge

I'm a typical party smoker. And I do smoke weed, I even grow it thanks to very reasonable interpretation of laws in Switzerland. It's illegal but they won't send you to jail for it and in many places they won't even fine you anymore. That's the way it's supposed to be. Period. Fact is, a society...

    The Official War Room

You know, this V-effect, in Bertold Brecht (Verschfremdungeffekt I think that's it in German)... It's "Verfremdungseffekt", but you're close enough for a non-German - it's a terrible language to learn, I'm glad I'm native German speaking :D But then again, I had so much trouble learning...

    Herve's Bar & Grill

so who here has a cell phone? (changing the subject!) ummm, i have many other gadgets but still don't have a cell phone. friends have abandoned me in scores for that and there's almost nobody left that really understands my point ;) it's not that bad. my friends put up with it and they...

    The Official War Room

well, the best way for non-americans to start protesting the war is to stop buying american products. The problem with that is that (in Europe at least) there's so many American products on the market, many of which people are not even aware of their actual origin (or at least where the...

    The Official War Room

I don't think blocking a street qualifies as ruckus. You've obviously never seen a real riot. At the end of the war will probably do more damage to the American economy than a bunch of protesters keeping other people from going about their own business. Bet your government is not going to admit...

    DVD region codes x 5?

I don't really need to repeat here that the whole region code issue is a bad joke. Here's my personal story: I have been travelling back and forth between Switzerland and Canada in the last few years and consequently bought DVDs on both sides of the Atlantic. I bought a Titanium PB recently and...

    The Official War Room

http://asia.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=2468581 Is this the American government's answer to criticism? On what ground exactly are thousands of peaceful demonstrators arrested? I know elsewhere they just run over protesters with tanks (remember Tinaniman square, Bejing...
