If I copy a mac os 9 volume using apple disk copy will it copy the invisible files as well? Will it be a bootable volume once copied back to an empty volume? I have spent the last couple of days reading up about Apple Software Restore and Disk Copy to clone a volume and it seems like all the...

    10.1.5 --- User Privillages Gone

Was this because of his admin status on his user account? Seems easily done and a really nasty gotcha...

    10.1.5 --- User Privillages Gone

this will probably sound silly but have you tried running fsck on it? Also do you have a disk with os 9 on it that you could boot from and then run norton, tech tool or similar? you might try going into net info and duplicating your account and retyping the password in the old one. Anyone...

    10.1.5 --- User Privillages Gone

you could try and setup another user id with admin privledges and see if that one has the problem as well. Then bring all your stuff into that profile. But I am not really sure how that will affect ownership/privledges.

"Localhost#" prompt strange after 10.1.5 update

So I updated my machine with the latest 10.1.5 update via Software Update and restarted my machine. Came up fine but I usually like to run "fsck" before updates and after a successful reboot. When I booted the second time to run fsck my prompt was followed by something that I hadn't seen...

    buffer underrun

b4tn... I agree with most of the tips everyone has suggested. I would 'second' kilowatts recommendation of copying the cd to disk first. also verify the buffer setting and perhaps bump it up a bit. I would also suggest that you try "optimizing" your disk (the one with the audio source) before...

Help with Hard Drive install please

paulboy...should be no problem to add the drive. Most drives are shipped as "master" not slave. so you will need to change the jumpers. most drives have the jumper settings right on top of the drive-right on the label. if the jumpers settings are not there (or illegible) you can usually go...

    htaccess, htpasswd setup - help!

No apology needed. I appreciate your feedback. And yes I see the logic to what you are saying. Learning to fish and catching your own fish is way better then having someone toss a trout that's already cooked on your plate. :-)

[HOWTO] - Enable Root Login to Mac OSX

I think that's got it. I tried to "login" to root and got the message "root login refused on this terminal." So I suppose I can assume root access is not enable.

OPINION WANTED! If you were looking for a house online...

looks really good. maybe add a search by low/high price query. I saw one site that allowed you to search the MLS listings by area code (or city) and price. this was important to me because I knew i had a price ceiling but also knew that I needed something a little better. If not that...

    email attachment question...

You should see it on your desk top. Do a find with Sherlock but set the custom find settings to "find files modified today" That will help you locate it quickly. One thing I should add...Sometimes files do not show up on the desk top for some reason. I have seen this quite a few times. Just...
