German magazine "c't" f's up, Appleturns.com lays the smackdown

The bottom line is, c't messed up in a big way. The holes in their testing are so big, you could sail the Titanic through them. Apple's "supercomputer" claim was based on the computing capability of the G4's Altivec unit. Doesn't anyone remember the G4 unveiling, in which Steve talked...

How many Mac's have you had in your lifetime? (Home only + parent's machines)

4 for me Mac Plus Performa 475 PowerBook Duo Titanium PowerBook G4/400 Of these, the plus lasted a long time (more than 4 years). Hard to believe that the MacOS and the program actually fit on an 800 KB floppy back then :-P

Apple needs a better slogan than "Everything is Easier on a Mac"

Yeah, I still love "Think Different" - it's catchy and cool in a way that's hard to describe. Plus, I love all those black and white images of different thinkers that Apple has spotlighted in the various "Think Different" campaigns. Still, I feel like it is time for a change. "Think...

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

Actually, a lot of the credit has to go to Laz - he's the one that got me seeing how "Everything is easier on a Mac" might have punch. Although thinking about it, it would make more sense if Shaq turned to the camera and said, "Hey, everything is easier with a Mac." :-P

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

Agreed. But Apple could definitely afford Shaq for a commercial - they have $4.3 billion of cash in the bank, and right now, the rate of inflation is greater than the savings rate, meaning money actually is losing its value if it simply sits in the bank. But imagine Shaq and the Lakers...

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

Actually, I have to agree that "Everything is Easier" is much better than "Everything is Easier on a Mac." But still, it bothers me because it doesn't encourage the consumer to do anything. Even when Apple finally introduced CD burners on the iMac, they used the tagline "Rip. Mix. Burn."...

Apple needs a better slogan than "Everything is Easier on a Mac"

On a totally unrelated note, there is a great anecdote about Henry Ford breaking the rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." While being known for building the first commercially successful automobile, Henry Ford's real contribution came from his application of mass production as a means for...

Apple needs a better slogan than "Everything is Easier on a Mac"

Let's stick to the point here. The point being made is, Apple is apparently moving away from "Think Different" in search of something new. First it seemed like it was going to be "The Power to Create" (or something similarly forgettable) that came out last year. Now there's talk about how...

Apple needs a better slogan than "Everything is Easier on a Mac"

Apologies for the volitile subject line, but I wanted to express my point succinctly as possible. Basically, this thread is an offshoot of another thread I posted in the Mac Hot Topics forum http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13590 To summarize, Fox Sports did a...

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

Speaking of which, does anyone else think that "Everything is Easier on a Mac" is a kind of lame for a slogan? First of all, it's a mouthful and not very catchy because it seems so blase. I mean, it's 11 syllables! And while ease-of-use is a great point to make, it's not exactly sexy or...

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

The more I think about it, the better it seems: Shaq and the LA Lakers in an Apple commercial. Apple's last dozen commercials or so have been cute and "nice" but have lacked the edge that makes them oh-so-cool. Imagine a Nike-type commercial set to some blood-quickening hip hop music as Shaq...

Shaq bans all but iPods from Lakers bus!

Check out this hot clip from Fox Sports! Apparently Shaq got sick of all the CDs and tapes the other Laker players were carrying around and cluttering up the bus with, and declared you only ride the Lakers bus if you have an iPod. So Fox followed three of the Lakers as they went to the Apple...

Please don't switch all iBooks to larger form factor!!!

Using the sour grapes argument shouldn't be a reason to like a product. "Well, so they couldn't make it lighter than 6 lbs. I guess that's not so bad" is not a very inspiring perspective to have on industrial design. The fact is, while 5.99 lbs may not weigh much compared to, say, an adult...

    All wireless all the time

Going back to the original point, Apple should take the next logical step and standardize wireless keyboards and mice. Apple did a great service for Mac users by standardizing on the optical mouse. The small bu great innovation would be to get rid of the transceiver that's present in current...

Please don't switch all iBooks to larger form factor!!!

Actually, kenny's post made me realize one thing. Sony currently has a variety of Vaio subnotebooks with small form factors. The new SR models have a 10.4" screen, so it's obvious that small LCD screens are - and will be available. It would be a shame if LCD manufactuers begin phasing out...

Please don't switch all iBooks to larger form factor!!!

I'm not sure where the original poster of this thread saw the report that Apple may be planning to phase out the 12" iBook, but check out the latest issue of MOSR (http://www.macosrumors.com). "A new iBook, which I have no idea of the release date (most likely at introduction of PowerBook but...

Please don't switch all iBooks to larger form factor!!!

Actually, I don't really think there is any danger the 12" model will be phased out. I'm willing to bet a few dollars that sales of the 12" models far exceed that of the 14" model. In fact, I might even bet a few more dollars that if anything gets phased out, it will be the 14" model! I mean...

Please don't switch all iBooks to larger form factor!!!

Yes, the small form factor of the 12.1" model is very appealing. A friend of mine, who only used Windows machines before and owns a Windows laptop, recently went Mac (even better, she went Mac because she was in the market for a portable digital music player and decided to buy the iPod). But...

    Uninstalling Classic in OS X

Is there a "proper" way to uninstall the Classic environment in OS X beside dragging the OS 9 folder to the trash? I'd like to remove Classic, but I was wondering if there was another/better way of doing so. Thanks in advance for your responses!

    Multi-Language Support?

Thanks for the response! But I tried that, but only roman characters spill out. :-( I noticed that enabling non-English languages like Korean doesn't automatically install the necessary fonts. Is this simply a matter of not having Korean fonts installed? If so, where can I get some?
