With processors getting ever more powerful, higher operating temperatures seem to be an inherent result. The new MacBooks do put out more heat, especially under full load, and heat related issues appear to be more prevalent. I would imagine that the new, powerful Mac Pros are big heat...

I happened upon Xbench: http://xbench.com/. It gives you an in-depth readout of a plethora of parameters on your Mac. You can compare it with other readouts submitted by users to Xbench's website. I found it most interesting. You might want to check it.
