Motorola breaks the speed barrier - 1.0ghz... Intel demos 5ghz chip.

My DP 500 is still pretty smooth. I push it pretty hard, and I'm a little sloppy in terms of keeping my installation tidy. As far as applications go- blame the developers. Just because application developers can release tight, streamlined code doesn't mean my hardware is any less fast.

No action in printer forum: How do you like your printer drivers?

My model is a wide-format PS version 3 enabled printer. HP's OSX drivers suck my left testacle and leave the right wanting more... I have -yet- to produce good vector output from X. I'm hoping they'll release an update for their Pressready rip- which was AMAZING in terms of the quality and...

    PNG images...

PNG files are your huckleberry. http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngintro.html Basically- very decent compression, 8 bit alpha channel, and good support whenever they're supported. IE supports them- you'd have to check other browsers. I use them a lot when doing Director development- since...

Umax scanner Astra 2100u in mac os x?

I -used- to be able to scan in Classic using Vistascan (although there website says this is impossible, which is impossible, since I was doing it). Because Classic USB devices are still fully functional in the classic layer (as opposed to firewire devices, which are not) you should be able to...

It would explain why they're also touting the whole 'new architecture- built for speed' ish. I'd like to see a diagram of my dp500 for comparison :)

How SLOW is your Airport to Airport speed?

I imagine that the FTP values you got were due to software or hardware problems on either the client or the server. I have been able to use the built in ftp client on windows 2000 to push a sustained 10 megabytes each second from my OSX machine back when I started using 10.0 The gigabit...

    new iPod

I actually looked into audio in using the firewire port. The best and most financially viable product would be a firewire device that was meant to write digital audio to a firewire hard drive without using a computer. It would need all the software needed to access the harddrive (including...

Memory compatibility questions for new iMac.

As I understand... there is a standard DIMM slot in the inner workings... but I'm not sure how accessible it is. There IS a SODIMM slot immediately accessible from under the base plate, next to the airport card. I don't know if there's a 'power user' accessible slot later on. They probably went...

gNAT - software base station OK but no DNS ?

What you want to do is setup a caching DNS server. There -should- be instructions somewhere on the web... basically... the server will talk to your ISP's nameserver, and all the client machines on your network will talk to your server for IP resolution (DNS addressing/hostname lookup/etc...

    AOL to purchase RedHat Linux?!!!

Considering AOL's purchase of netscape and the lack of rammifications that had... I don't really care too much about this. AOL seems more interested in consolidation and aquisition rather than having a definite strategy. 'Hey- can we buy you?' 'Uhhh... sure...' 'OK' Palm better watch...
