Yet another company is gobbled up by......... Apple?

Apple still needs to buy Disney, based solely on the principle that Disney was going to buy Apple. *nods sagely*

    Mac os 10.2

A little bonus for you... Apple has recently admitted it is strongly considering expanding its line of Apple Stores to Europe (as early as Q3 2002)! Apple has honestly viewed Europe as its 2nd or 3rd priority in the past, although now that it is beginning to really solidify itself and grow in...

Is owning an Apple Computer an advantage?

Hell, I'm a nerd, and a Mac user (although admittedly I play with FreeBSD and some distros of Linux also). I'm a software geek to the bones. Although I have a hard time convincing people of it unless they see me sit in front of a computer for a few days straight just coding (eating and...

Is owning an Apple Computer an advantage?

I think it depends on your situation. I would argue if you were, say, 5,000 feet above the Earth with nothing holding you up, it would definitely be more advantageous to have a parachute than a Mac. Cheers, Dak

    Penguins Unite?

Is it just me or do you think the little penguins should be holding axes behind their backs and foaming at the mout... err, bill? Then again, beware of the Platypus too. Cheers, Dak (ours have tridents, muhaha)

    Redhat headache! (AOL buys Redhat)

In a strange turn of events, Red Hat's already bloated stock price soared today on rumors that AOL would buy Red Hat. Red Hat then turned around and decided to buy AOL. Steve Case was last seen standing on his head and laughing in a bathroom somewhere in Wisconsin. Cheers, Dak

    Aol's priorities

As far as I'm concerned, AOL is M$ 2.0. Although right now the AOL/TW monopoly takes a backstage to the more serious one being played out in the industry right now... the M$ monopoly. Because M$ exists right now AOL/TW is left relatively alone, although expect once M$ falls that AOL will be...

    Apple sued over G3 support

Except in 5 years we'll all be using G7s and anticipating G8s ;) Apple wants to move the life cycle of each processor to 18 months, hehe. Cheers, Dak

    Apple sued over G3 support

I've still got an old beige G3 on the floor in the basement running as a server. And despite all the incompatibility problems it has with MacOS X, it can still run it, and in fact is. Hell, it's been able to run MacOS X since DP3. It isn't easy to get some older G3s running (example, I had to...

How long does your browser take to load this?

approx. 4.7 seconds with OmniWeb 4.1 sp 29. Running MacOS X 10.1.2. Quicksilver PowerMac G4 (867MHz G4+, 1.1GB RAM, 37 processes running using 21.8% CPU power when idle, T3 connection averaging 1.3MB / sec sustained max, peaks of 2MB/sec). Haven't tried using other browsers. Cheers, Dak

    New ghz PowerMacs next Tuesday...

theCaptain, the 10 day waiting period is standard from Apple when they are very close to releasing upgrades to a product line. The Apollo G4s should be released very shortly, early next week most likely. (seem to be reports that Tuesday is the day now). A little disappointing, yes...

    apple buy omniweb?

According to the Omni Group, they have sold over 5000 licenses of OmniWeb for MacOS X. I can happily say I'm one of those 5000+ people, and eagerly follow the progress the Omni Group makes on OmniWeb and a number of its other projects as well. Cheers, Dak

Windows Codename Longhorn copies Mac OS X BADLY!

Well, just a nit-picking historic point: DirectX wasn't first, Apple's QuickDraw 3D came out before DirectX, and in fact when Apple ended their QuickDraw 3D project their lead engineer in it went to Microsoft to startup M$'s DirectX project. DirectX in fact borrowed heavily from the work...

Governmant is now asking Public to propose a settlment for the M$ antitrust case!!!

You're right on the money there... one of the most important things is to force open EVERY API now, and they should be kept open. Watch M$ Office almost instantly see more competition than it's had in years, and it's price plummet back down to reasonable levels. Although that's just one...

    iPhoto or iMovie?

Many digital video camcorders will take still pictures as well as video. Check out some of the offers at Apple's online store like this one: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/172/wo/YTdzU0Nl7XbwwA198t/1.3.0.3.30.10.3.13.0 Cheers, Dak

Are G5s Being Released at MWSF in Jan?

Sorry, but no G5s come Macworld SF (there have been some rumors Apple will call the new Apollo G4s G5s, although there won't be any REAL G5s until this summer). New G4s will be released however that exceed 1GHz. Don't be surprised if Apple's mid and upper model towers sport multi G4s though...

    Why not more MP systems?

The GHz's listed are perceived GHz. It's not a technical explanation, simply one more people can understand. I was simply stating a dual 800 MHz G4 would perform at about 185% (not 200%) the level of a single 800 MHz G4. This roughly compares to a single 1.48 GHz G4 in performance (very...

    Why not more MP systems?

The reason you don't get the full effect of the second processor is because the processors have to share the load by communicating with each other. And they communicate with each other using the system bus. Now while OS X is quite effective at dividing up different threads to be handled by...
