I don't usually have any problems moving apps other places, maybe with rare exceptions, but it looks like the haxie reinstall worked - Disk Utility works flawlessly now. Thanx mucho!! :D

Haven't tried burning an existing image, but I definitely can't create a new one. Disk Utility gives me the error "Invalid Argument", so maybe the answer _is_ to completely redo the haxies. I'll try that.

When trying to image a DVD or create a blank image, Disk Copy starts then immediately quits, and I get this error message: Date/Time: 2005-04-10 00:18:01 -0600 OS Version: 10.3.8 (Build 7U16) Report Version: 2 Command: Disk Copy Path: / APPLICATIONS/ARCHIVING/Disk...

But that's the thing - I didn't actually _remove_ anything, just copied. I would take several prefs at a time, log out, and see if it stopped downloading, but it never did. Couldn't disable it.

Ok, here's another weird one for you: I made a new account and copied all the prefs, but it still didn't stop it from downloading. But THEN I went back to the old profile - and I could download again! :rolleyes: :confused: :eek: Your guess is as good as mine....

Ok, I did all that and it worked. But is there any way to fix the settings on my main account? I'd really rather not have to reset ALL my prefs

I ran Disk Utility - thought it repaired everything, but I'll check it again.

Update - repaired permissions; still nothing.

Auricle - wow, I thought I was the only one with this problem. Interesting. Come to think of it, I did recently change the permissions on my main hard drive from "System" to "Me" for some reason. Might have been for Norton, since it's finicky about running Disk Doctor from the startup drive...

I use Norton Utilities 7 but no virus software. The firewall is the built-in one. I may have looked at a virus sniffer or two online, but didn't download them. Are there any preference files that might be causing this?

Nope, of all the other stuff I've installed, none of it had anything to do with downloading (that I know of).

I'm always installing/trying out 3rd-party utilities, etc., so I'm really not sure what I've installed since and what came before.

Page refreshes and that's it. Firefox, but I've tried Safari and Mozilla - same thing. Tried that and reset a bunch of them. Still nothing. It's as if the computer doesn't recognize a download link anymore.

For the last few weeks (?) I've been having a problem downloading anything directly from the Internet without control-clicking to "save link as". It was only mildly annoying until I got to a site where it can't be done that way. Don't know if I messed up a setting somewhere, or if it's a bug in...
