Erase Junk messages in X days in Mail.app

Does this work for anyone else? Because it doesn't work for me. Never has. I set this under "Special Mailboxes" in the Mail preference panel under "Accounts." I set it to erase junk mail messages after a day. I don't get any kind of error message or anything; it just doesn't work. Is this an...

20 inch cinema display and Radeon 8500

I did a little research, trying to figure out if the second connector on the card is ADC or DVI, and believe it or not, most of what I got was mutually contradictory. In fact, I looked at one article that described it as an ADC port in one paragraph, and a DVI port in another paragraph! But...

20 inch cinema display and Radeon 8500

I have a G4/500 AGP 1280 Meg with an aftermarket Radeon 8500 AGP video card. Currently it's got two VGA monitors connected to it, one via an ADC-VGA adaptor. I'm assuming I can connect the Cinema Display to the ADC connector if I remove the VGA monitor that's currently plugged into it, right?

    OS X Server vs. client

Well, it's getting to be time to think about a new Mac (well, time to start saving for one anyway). I'll probably be buying a new G5 (or G6, or whatever it is by then) around next April, hopefully around the time Tiger ships. But I'm thinking of getting it with OS X server installed instead...

No audio balance control on G4 iMacs?

He's looking at the "Output" tab, and the dialog that says "There are no settings available for selected device" (which is the Built-in audio controller). You don't need to be an administrator to change the volume or balance.

No audio balance control on G4 iMacs?

OS X 10.2.6, which came pre-installed on the iMac (after running a bunch of updates via Software Update). The speakers are the little globular ones that ship with iMacs.

No audio balance control on G4 iMacs?

A friend of mine just bought a 17" G4 iMac, and he asked me how to adjust the audio balance. I told him to go to the Sound preference panel, click on Output, and adjust the slider. He says there isn't any slider, it just says "There are no settings available for selected device." Seems kinda...

Having troubles with a DVD RAM cartridge drive...

I also have a G4/500 Sawtooth with a factory-installed DVD-RAM drive. The thing reads DVDs and CDs, and will read from and write to Type I 5.2 Gig (2.6 Gig per side) double-sided media. I was wondering if anyone out there can give me a rundown of all the media I can *write* to. I know there are...

Dual Heads on ATI 8500 Crashing Jaguar

Actually, those are all good ideas. It has occurred to me that the card may be bad. I can definitely rule out the second display as a problem, since two different displays, by different manufacturers, running at different resolutions, have had the same problem. I've considered doing more...

Dual Heads on ATI 8500 Crashing Jaguar

I'm just running the drivers that installed with Jaguar. The crashes and kernel panics continued with 10.2.3, and have occurred with two entirely different secondary monitors running at different resolutions. It doesn't seem to matter what's showing on the secondary monitor, and it doesn't seem...

Dual Heads on ATI 8500 Crashing Jaguar

I have a G4/500 AGP with 1280 Meg of RAM and an 80 Gig ATA HD. Not long before I purchased 10.2, I bought an ATI 8500 so I could take advantage of Quartz Extreme. Since I had an extra monitor anyway, I decided to run the system with two displays. The problem is, I got random crashes and kernel...

Kernel panic when waking the screen

I have a G4/500 SP with 1280 Meg RAM, 80 Gig ATA drive, 120 Gig Firewire external drive, a Radeon 8500 driving a 19" Sony and a 15" Sony monitor. I'm running OS X 10.2.2. About every three or four days, the machine will kernel panic when I wake the screens. The machine is NOT set to sleep; the...

    iSync beta

I've been using the public beta of iSync to sync my Palm VIIx to Address Book, iCal, and Palm Desktop under OS X 10.2.1. Most of the time things go pretty well (albeit abysmally slowly), but every once in a while iSync spazzes out and either deletes all the calendar entries in iCal, or on the...

Mounting ftp servers on the desktop?

It would be nice to be able to get it to work properly. Unimplement (or poorly implemented) features bother me. Plus, it would be nice to be able to load a document from an ftp server directly into an application, edit it, and save it back, without having to first save to a local volume.

Mounting ftp servers on the desktop?

Has anyone had any success mounting ftp servers on the desktop in Jaguar? I read somewhere that this was one of the new features, so I gave it a try. I attempted to connect to one of my machines running OS X using the address 'ftp://myservername.com in the "Connect to Server" dialog in the...

    Missing fonts in Cocoa apps

I recently did a clean install of Jaguar on my G4/500 SP, and noticed a weird font issue affecting Cocoa apps. It seems like certain fonts (I believe they're all PostScript fonts) aren't recognized. They're just given random names like "--font 8267--," and you can't select or use them (although...

    Multihoming under OS X

Yeah, that looks like the right way to do it. Ideally, I'd give both domains the same IP address, and then let Apache figure out where to serve the files for each domain from. Also, thanks for straigtening me out on the distinction between virtual hosting and multihoming. Supposedly...

    Multihoming under OS X

Well, maybe virtual domains would work. So I could register an additional domain, point it to my IP address, and then apache can figure out how to route requests to the individual domains? That would probably do what I need to do.

    Multihoming under OS X

My understanding of this stuff is a little hazy, so please bear with me...but it's my understanding that OS X is capable of serving multiple domains from one machine. If I understand what this means, it's that you could serve, say, requests to www.somedomain.com and requests to...

    Rotating Desktop pictures

I've got two computers running Jag: a 500 MHz G4 AGP with a Radeon 8500 and 1.25 Gig of RAM and dual monitors, and a 600 MHz iMac G3 with the original Rage 128 Pro and 512 Meg of RAM. Both machines' desktops are set to randomly change the desktop picture every five minutes. On the G4, which...
