I don't have any trouble when using Fire, the über-messenger from <a href=http://www.epicware.com/fire.html>Epicware<a> It supports AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber all in one application... You should give it a whirl if it is indeed a software problem (or if you just want an all in one solution)
