I just found this out, and although you may not notice much of a speed up, it's there. In the terminal, type "sudo update_prebinding -root /" It pre-binds commonly used libraries to speed everything up. I set it up as a cron job to do it automatically every week.

Well, the computer that needs the card is currently running 9, and most likely will be for some time. Do you know the names of any of these companies?

I know this seems like a stupid question, but is there ANY way at all to install and AirPort card on my Beige G3 233Mhz (Rev. A) that, obviously, doesn't support AirPort. This would save me a lot of time and money attempting to run wires through the walls and ceilings.

There is a UNIX way to protect your folders. Go to the directory above the one you want to lock (like if you wanted to lock /Applications/Games you would type "cd /Applications" in the terminal). Once there, type in "chown [your username] [folder name]" (you may need to use sudo if it says...
