    G5 raid

I'm thinking about buying a set of extra HD's (74 GB Raptor's) and put those via a special bracket in a G5 and use them as a (Apple, software) RAID 1 'striped' to boot from. The 'old' HD I'd like to keep using 'on the side'. Has anyone done this, and if so, did it work smoothly? Regards, snipper

    What crashes 10.3.2 ?

You won't believe it, but I found the solution (and the problem in the first place)... If you are using a Draytek Vigor router (like me and a zillion others) and you update to OSX 10.3.2, your Mac can get seriously instable. The solution: update your Draytec Vigor firmware. You can find...

    What crashes 10.3.2 ?

Yep (Disk Utility), I even run it automaticly. I cleared up some HD space and for now it seems to help... [fingers crossed]

    What crashes 10.3.2 ?

OK, that might be it. Nice solution. BUT that's a passed station. Of course I've updated to 10.3, then to 10.3.1 and later to 10.3.2 when they became available. What's the point of updates anyway, if you have to reinstall the whole thing again first??

    What crashes 10.3.2 ?

Since I updated to 10.3.2, Safari and other 'apple' apps seem to be the root of crashes, sometimes at startup of the app. No windows appear, sometimes the spinning beachball appears. Then, when I try to 'force quit', often the whole Mac crashes. Sometimes it already crashes after startup...

Beamers for personal, daily use? Other tips for working space?

OK - I won't use 'beamer' any more, we'll stick to 'projector'! Coincidently, I saw an ad for an air cleaner/moisterizer yesterday. I think I'll take a free 'test ride' with it :) Last summer I was at the BBQ of a customer, Elbert Vlastuin of SCO Benelux and he held a presentation with a...

Beamers for personal, daily use? Other tips for working space?

Yep: I used to use a stereo before, now I use a set of computerspeakers, but that's not the same.. Dolby digital Surround sound is what I want this time! Is it available /supported for Mac OS X anyway? The Perfect Mac Room List so far: Mac G5 2x2GH/250GBstripedRAID, wireless keyboard, 3...

Beamers for personal, daily use? Other tips for working space?

No, I never give presentations (sometimes I put them together for important people of big companies, but that doesn't count, does it? ;) Maybe y'all should know: I work at home, not in an office. I'm a freelancer, there are no co-workers. My new work room is only 3,5 x 4 m, so it won't be...

Beamers for personal, daily use? Other tips for working space?

Everybody's seen beamers (projectors), but can anybody tell me if they're comfortible in every day use? Is it easier on the eyes? I'm a 'fulltime' Mac user, using two screens at the same time. Me and my girlfriend just bought a house. It will take another year before it's completed, so I've...

G5: What should I buy at Apple and what elsewhere?

The Dutch price is including 19% tax (7.147,14 euro = 8800 us dollars) The US price is $6,223 - but I have no idea if that's including tax (tell me!). I DO know, that when I'd buy a Mac in the US and import it to the Netherlands, I'd have to pay import taxes. I've looked this up at our...

G5: What should I buy at Apple and what elsewhere?

[I know, the Dutch have a reputation of being cheap, and this will conform it:] I live in the Netherlands and when I compare the price of a G5 2x2 GHz/2 GB RAM/2x 250 GB striped raid/20' flatscreen to exactly the same set in the US Applestore, the latter is about 2500 dollars cheaper. I...

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

Yes.. I'm afraid so. A lot of Powerbooks [and iBooks] seem to have this problem - a defective logic board - and the discussion board at Apple is full of them. For example: http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?13@@.3bbd91cc/8

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

Yes, I updated to 10.2.4, but I havn't had a kernel panic since 10.1, over half a year ago. Believe me, this has nothing to do with a kernel panic. I had this 'melting screen' problem, even when I started up from the OS X cd, to use the disk utility, to repair rights.

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

I heard about these european laws, but I can't find any documentation about it, do you? I live in the Netherlands by the way, not Belgium.

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

Yes, please. Do you mean you don't know it yet? Don't you received a bill yet? Or didn't you get it back yet?

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

I don't have Apple care. When was yours send to the Netherlands? In which country are you? I hear Dutch Apple-owners who say their TiBooks were send to Germany for repair.

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

Well.. it was excatly like this movie: http://home.broadpark.no/~cbjorv-1/tiger/film.html From a guy in the apple discussion you mentioned. This probebly means my logic board is screwed, or the connetor to it or whatever causes this strange behaviour. :(

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

The link you gave to the 'scare frost screen' clearly displays a kernel panic ? that's something else: in this case just the screen freezes, not the cpu. The discussions forum of Apple is quite big, which story to you mean?

    Screen freezes: Hardware or software?

Yesterday the screen of my Mac suddenly froze. I restarted, but it happend a dozen times since. I tried the usual [zapping PRAM, zapping it multiple times, using Apple's disk utility for X]. I'm using OS X 10.2.3 on a 1st generation Titanium Powerbook. The weird thing about it: my 2nd monitor...

    Mail.app Corruption after 10.2.1 update!!!

I say: restart from your 10.2 cdrom and repair priviliges, restart again from cdrom and check disk in the First Aid app. Then restart and try again.
