Can't Install Panther on Clamshell iBook

You know, that machine is soooo old, I would accept that it balks at some CDs and not others. Really. Perhaps you have an external firewire or other disk you can install Panther from. Or make an install disk image of Panther ... that might be System Restore, but read up.

    iWeb

Do you have the whole toolbar showing? Sometimes a click will accidentally minimize a toolbar. Also, if you are new to this ... do you know about doing a control-click on the toolbar to customize what shows, and whether it is just the icon, icon and text etc., also size. The icon you want...

How can I view dynamic php pages developed locally

Try Headdress. Or Patrick Gibson's terrific virtual hosts script . There are any number of ways to set up serving yourself, so to speak. Maybe you know PHP well enough to try I find that too many little things can go wrong or can be forgotten. Also: MAMP. A whole great package, incl...

Mail crashing on launch after 10.4.11 Update

Nothing extraordinary in a crash after a big upgrade. Troubleshooting has to look back to your install method, and if you didn't do it right - reapplying works. I would repair permissions and do a deep cleanup of system and user caches first, run Disk Utility and verify disk, Restart, quit any...

Powerbook boot troubles! Yes, common post, but please, help!

    >My battery is completely dead (could this be 1 problem?) Yes, absolutely. I had a 15" that would not start up until the battery was charged up to three or four lights. Never mind that it was plugged in. Obviously not a Powerbook in good health--but neither is yours. I don't believe those...

Outgoing Mail and Thoughts on Leopard

Same thing needs to happen for each outgoing server. Comcast does not need the port change - but what is eluding people is that little drop down menu to Edit Server settings - if your password isn't in there and the port set correctly, the Keychain entry won't stick and then, of course, people...

Keeping a permanent wireless connection under Leopard.

I don't know if the two are connected - tho it's great to come on this issue, which requires, apparently, only a force re-prebind, via Terminal, TinkerTool System or another utility that has been clearly updated for Leopard. I had your problem in Tiger, for a while, and eventually disconnecting...

    My margins are off...

Setting margins is a little tricky; depending on the application and on the printer used, the print settings may override what you've set in the document - and then there's your system printer window. I don't remember back to Jaguar, but in Tiger and now in Leopard, there are a series of...

    Question about moving files...

That's exactly what it's for, and you'll find it in your Utilities Folder, in Applications.

Anyway to make Transmit ignore SVN files/folders by default?

You must have Transmit set to automatic Sync? Otherwise, Transmit is as freely drag and drop as anything else on the Mac. You could make a Droplet (go into Edit Favorites) to include only the files you choose, drop files on the dock icon. Read through Transmit Help, lots of choices.

HOWTO: Speed up wired internet connection

Try Mac Pilot (shareware) for one of the best network tweaking apps ever. Permanent settings for broadband ... cool. Other apps say they do this, but only until restart, and MP verifies the settings. Excellent app.

with appl download comes device not configured

I'd try deleting com.apple.bomarchivehelper.plist and any apple plists with disk image or installer in the name and restarting, as a first step.

    MacBook Pro Crashing...

I'd clear the PRAM and probably the NVRAM, in that case. And if Disk Warrior has an Intel version, never be without it.

    Bonjour not working for Printers

Occasionally, one has to connect with USB first .. Have you tried reinstalling the printer? Easy And when you open Airport Admin Utility, does it show up there (if turned on, of course.) PSR is a fantastic utility ..

    Finder & Desktop problem -- both jumping/disappearing

First, what you've got are Finder crashes. Look in the user Library/Preferences for com.Apple.Finder, delete it and restart. Then check in if you still have the problem. Do you have a maintenance routine? MainMenu is a good one, though all of it doesn't need to be run everyday. Never...

    SLOW ibackup

Okay, well, you could try a fresh copy of iBackup ...and delete its preferences file or plist first. If it's still slow ... try some other backup apps. See what's highly rated on MacUpdate, I find their ratings and reviews more helpful.

    Mail2.1 apparently corrupted. Now what?

"If fsck indicates a problem which it can't fix, then take your computer to a qualified repair shop." This is soooo wrong. Let us all totally ignore it. YES, to answer your question. The utility Pacifist will allow you to inspect your original install disk and extract whatever you need...

    Safari Web Archives: Reliable?

I've never seen that problem. It could be one of file helpers ... which for some reason Apple chose to hide from the user in X. I use DefaultApp from Rixstep (free.) It could be that Safari doesn't think it's supposed to open webarchives. Certainly worth a try ... as are moving the Safari plist...

pictures on safari page show up as blue square???

Ignore most of the above. First thing, I would check your plugins. Is your Quicktime up to date? Okay, I'm seeing the three blue boxes as well, in both Safari and Firefox ... Interestingly, this pic is all one .png, not four separate pix as would be normal ... and, I do not have...
