Hi Will the above stated RAM amount be enough for my iBook as the price difference between the 512 and 1GB module are huge. The kind of work I will be doing is mainly audio work, with some other general game playing and word processing and internet surfing etc.

When buying an NIC does it really matter which one I buy as long as it is 10/100MB compatible or should I look out for a particular one? Coz on ebay I can get one for £2.95 which is linux compatible

Once I get the network card for my pc will I just be able to use any ethernet adsl modem such as the X-Modem CE? How hard is it to configure network cards on linux? Does anyone have some reccomended network cards for linux?

Also whats gonna happen is that when I get my ibook I am going away to board for 6th form and the broadband is at my house for my parents to use on their PC, when I'm away I will probably be able to network up with the school's network for internet access, only on holidays and free weekends...

Because its gonna be a good 4 months till I get my ibook, will there be any difference in surfing with a USB modem than an ethernet one

Well I won't be using the PC and the iBook at the same time on the internet, ie the pc will be used for now until I get my ibook in a few months, and then that will be used. So would a USB modem such as the Alcatel Speedtouch 330 be OK and be as good as an ethernet one?

Hi I understand that the iBook G4 series comes with firwire 400 interface, and I am thinking instead of buying a bigger internal HD with the iBook, I might buy an external fw HD due to the cheaper/larger nature of it. Will the 400 interface be fast enough or will there be a significant speed...

I here that it is *possible* to cram 1GB of RAM in an iBook even though Apple only states that you can put 512MB in there, is this possible? Will the iBook just except the extra RAM and configure it correctly or will I need to do something to make this RAM usable. Thanks Dan

yer its a full version plus you can buy an addon pack called JamPack (i think) which tripples the number of samples and virtual instruments

You do that! Also remember that the system architecture is totally different in apple computers to those of pc's, someone will probably contradict me here, but the PC systems are based on the x86 system which uses CISC which stands for complex instruction set computer to the layman this...

Thanks for your reply man! Yer I think I'll go for da iBook, it does have USB 2.0 doesn't it? I'll use the extra dough for bluetooth, 1GB ram and a phat HD + software :D
